NFC is definitely something to behold....All of the big 3 seem to have clear holes/glaring weaknesses

Vikes or Philly got a nice opening for a SB run

Ahh lol, who am I kidding? Just give us Brady/Rodgers and Mahomes/Allen now, that will be the final 4 barring extreme variance or bracketing that causes them to meet earlier

Dolphins and Pats are the same mediocre teams that they were last year. This year though the Pats won't luckbox a number of easy wins that lets them make the playoffs. The Dolphins have added enough skill players that will boost Tua's stats by high YAC. Of course, the press will claim that "This is Tua's breakout year!!" while it's just Mac 2021.

well duh, YAC make a huge difference to a QB's stats and effectiveness. Mahomes' stats benefitted by 1000 yards last year vs league ave QB. If he had the same YAC as eg Mac, he'd have passed for less yards.

Went and looked at stats from 2021 and the first game

Net Yards / Per Attempt

Mac
2021 - 6.48
2022 - 6.03

Tua
2021 - 6.13
2022 - 6.72

If you factor that in they had pretty similar stats yesterday.

WEEK 1 NFL POWER RANKINGS

ELIte

1. Bills (1-0)
2. Chiefs (1-0)
3. Bucs (1-0)

My gut says the Bucs are a step behind those two but I'm entertaining them as part of the "big 3" for now. Don't think this order is up for much debate.

The Good

4. Rams (0-1)
5. Chargers (1-0)
6. Ravens (1-0)
7. Vikings (1-0)
8. Eagles (1-0)
9. Bengals (0-1)
10. Colts (0-0-1)
11. Saints (1-0)
12. Dolphins (1-0)

Don't hang onto "Good" too much, just work with me here. I am confident all of these teams will look pedestrian at times but right now I think they are the teams, that on one of their good days, are capable of hanging with Bills/Chiefs.

The Bad

13. Packers (0-1)
14. Niners (0-1)
15. Browns (1-0)
16. Raiders (0-1)
17. Broncos (0-1)
18. Steelers (1-0)
19. Titans (0-1)
20. Cardinals (0-1)
21. Football Team (1-0)
22. Bears (1-0)

Just a messy mix of teams here. Mostly 2021 starlets who have lost their shine. Too many question marks at important spots have me doubt the likes of Packers, Niners, Titans, Cards. To be honest Bears probably are still ugly and that was a one-off win, but I'll give them some rope. I had to tweak rankings a bit, I really did think the Broncos would go into Seattle and slap them around a bit but maybe that was just the Seahawks Alamo game, with Russell back in town. Also those redzone turnovers and FGs absolutely killed them. Actually of this bunch of teams I probably like the Browns most.

The Ugly

23. Pats (0-1)
24. Cowboys (0-1)
25. Panthers (0-1)
26. Giants (1-0)
27. Seahawks (1-0)
28. Falcons (0-1)
29. Lions (0-1)
30. Texans (0-0-1)
31. Jaguars (0-1)
32. Jets (0-1)

Yes -- two of these teams won games! (and one tied)... but I don't care. Of them all probably the Giants and Panthers are the two I like most to move up. Cowboys are an absolute dumpster fire without Dak (maybe even with Dak?).

Disclaimer: this was hard, week 1 is mostly gut feel. So many interesting results.

- Might be overreacting a touch with Green Bay -- Rodgers could still get it done just fine and it's going to take a bit to hit their stride
- Same with Niners, probably too much talent to fall by the wayside but Lance or Jimmy G just do not do it for me
- Love that Ravens/Vikings/Eagles/Colts grouping tbh, I will probably spend a lot of my money gambling on those teams
- Will also probably take the points whenever I can on Commanders/Panthers/Browns/Steelers, just feels right to me

It will be interesting to see how many of the ten 'The Bad' teams will move up.

It's gonna be a struggle for the Bucs to stay Elite.

I think 4 groupings this year will make your job easier, while also clarifying things.

Gonna be a lot of ugly teams this year.

I view the Packers, Niners and Cards at having the best shot of moving up.

I have to disagree with G-Bebe on the Browns moving up if anything I think they , along with the Bears, will be in the ugly category soon

It’s hard to overcome Jacoby Brissett. Good thing they started off with a cupcake against the Panthers.

The Cowgirls never took a snap inside the Bucs 30 yard line. That's some historic kind of bad right there, and that was with Dak for most of the game.

RIP Cooper Rush

Yeah, the Bears and Commanders could easily be Ugly. But someone like Wentz is perfect to keep Washington competitive, but actually good.

I dunno, I didn't think the 5 tiers made life more difficult? If I had done 5, I'd probably have made a break at the Saints instead, and then again at Broncos or Steelers or so. But I suppose less can be more.

I can't argue the top three, all have too much talent to be pushovers this year.

I think the same applies for Browns, if they can weather the storm with Brissett they'll be in great shape to move up around when Watson returns. Obviously power rankings are kind of taken in the "now" which is why they're middle of the pack. Aside from Watson their skill players are very good imo. Plus they have a reasonably soft schedule in the first 6 weeks, could easily see them at 5-1.

My pre-week 1 was that the Eagles might be too flavour-of-the-month, but I am quickly coming around on them.

TNF is going to be epic. If the Chiefs have another strong showing and crush the Chargers they deserve the #1 spot even if the Bills crush the Titans on MNF. If the Chargers win they deserve the #2 spot and move the Chiefs to #5. If the Chiefs win a close game and Bills win I’d likely keep Chiefs at #2 and Chargers at 5.

Colts seem too high at 10. They barely tied the Texans who came in ranked dead last and in fact the Colts should’ve lost that game.

thx for the rankings update g-bebe. always look forward to them

smart not to penalize CIN too much. JOE had the emergency appendectomy surgery and is still getting back to strength. also, that was the first live action the o-line has ever seen together. they'll be better as the season goes on and should get back to their winning ways with Cooper and Flacco Flakes up next in Weeks 2 and 3

It just seems bad for a football player. On a scale of typical political corruption, it's only really about a 3.

Bills are #1 until they lose, imo. And even that might not be enough.

I'd argue the exact opposite, Colts should have won that game by 10+. They dominated that game in pretty much every metric (other than turnovers, which also furthers this argument). Crazy things happen in the NFL but the Colts are still a pretty good team.

Would say the same thing about Denver which is why I still have such a large disparity between them and Seattle.

It's certainly possible the Bills end up #1, but not sure how they can be after the first week when the Chiefs were better in every single way.

Packers will be fine - they're an elite regular season team. Rodgers will look great this week, he's got the Bears early in the season, which is where he's at his absolutely best.
