Isn't the correct move for the Niners to sign/trade for Wallace instead of drafing a guy like Stephen Hill? They have the 30th pick. Wallace and Moss would be fun to watch, if Alex can get the ball to them

I wonder how the rfa process works in that regard... PIT has the right to match any offer, but they're too close to the cap to match an offer with a $12M first-year salary. How much time does PIT have to match, and is it first-come first-serve or can they wait for the Bears to offer their 19th pick instead?

I think it is either first come, first serve or the most lucrative offer to Wallace needs to be matched by the Steelers.

If it is first come, first serve, than there could only be one offer to Wallace.

I don't know anything about Stephen Hill. As far as Wallace, he'll cost you a lot more money but you don't have to wait for him to develop like with most rookies. The pick has to be weighed into the cost and you have to compare him to other FA options but SF or the Pats seem like they could really use a guy like that. It's more about how he fits and cap space, and maybe how urgently you need the help. I don't know how a 2 year development cycle would help the Pats with Brady's age being what it is.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't get multiple offers from teams drafting in the low first round. He's too good and too young with very rare deep speed. And some other options like DeSean are locked up under the tag, though from rumors Eagles could be open to a lesser trade offer.

Wallace has to accept an offer first.

Alex Smith has bad deep accuracy (his decision making is usually good, so he evens out to be average), Wallace would be wasted in SF.

I was just going to ask about Smith's deep pass

I'm guessing this has changed somewhat in favor of the owners, but it looks like wallace gets to choose.

Examples of possible outcomes

In addition to the following outcomes, if a player does not receive an offer sheet from his original team, he becomes an unrestricted free agent. If a player signs the offer sheet from his original team, he remains with that team.

Team declining to match offer sheet. Carolina Panthers cornerback Ricky Manning, Jr. was a restricted free agent in the 2006 offseason. Based on the tender placed on Manning by the Panthers, the team would receive a third-round pick in the NFL Draft if Manning signed with another team. On April 21, the Chicago Bears signed Manning to an offer sheet - a five-year contract worth up to $23 million. Although the Panthers had a full week to decide if they wanted to match the offer sheet, they announced on April 24 that they would not match. At this time, Manning became a member of the Bears and the Panthers received a third-round draft choice in the 2006 draft from Chicago.

Team matching offer sheet. Arizona Cardinals offensive guard Reggie Wells was a restricted free agent in the 2006 offseason. On March 17, the Buffalo Bills signed him to an offer sheet - a five-year deal worth approximately $18 million. Four days later on March 21, the Cardinals matched the Bills' offer sheet for Wells, and he reverted to the Cardinals.

Team consummating a trade. The Miami Dolphins offered wide receiver Wes Welker a second-round tender in 2007. Although it was widely rumored that the New England Patriots would offer Welker a seven-year, $35 million deal, the Patriots ultimately traded their second- and seventh-round draft picks to the Dolphins for Welker, signing Welker to a five-year, $18 million contract.
wallace is the best guy out there by a significant margin, and he's played in cold weather... the bears have to get him.

I cannot wait to see how you react when DA BEARS sit on their hands while Belichick snaps him up.

Smith has good deep accuracy to Vernon Davis, which is the Niners only true deep threat. I think a guy like Wallace could be fine.

Winston had a 5.5M cap number but was legit one of the best RTs in football last season. Baffling move.

Yeah, giving up 7.5 sacks from the RT position is elite level. (9.5 the season before). Also add on 5 holding penalties. I mean...I guess he run blocks well?

A 1st isn't too bad for teams at the bottom of the first. Hurts less for teams w/ cap space, which there might not be too many of.

Rams cut CB Ron Bartell, DE James Hall, C Jason Brown and DT's Fred Robbins & Justin Bannan. Free'd up $16m in cap space so far today.

Cortland Finnegan to be a Ram by the weekend?

Surprised me as well but talk of maybe bringing him back on league minimum.
