Pretty sure any chance for protest been exhausted seeing as free agency starts tomorrow.

I'm personally hoping Dallas just clears it off of their cap this year. I've been kind of wanting them to gamble on a lot of these young players anyway before signing a progress stopper. They still have space to sign a corner and a backup QB. I'm tired of watching them overpay to resign their mediocre veterans. Maybe we'll find some sick UFA and it will be a blessing in disguise

Skins, wow. I don't even have the words. I'd really knock it out this year if I were you

I doubt the # came out of nowhere, must be directly related to how much $$ was spent "breaking" the rules. Skins are a ton under the cap (or, were) which must be related to all the front loading they did.

Can't believe the NFLPA allowed this bull**** to happen. Wasn't the deterrence for the NFL being dicks in negotiations and allowing an uncapped season to happen was the fact that there would be um, an uncapped season? So many players got screwed that year because of the sudden change in rules the other way, like Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins who were supposed to be Free Agents. Seems ridiculous to me.

i don't know why "punish" was in quotes in that kraft quote, because that's exactly what's happening. i agree with tyler, doesn't seem fair, unwritten rules aren't rules.

when the rg3 deal happened i read that's it's not official until they can actually do the deal, goddell might be giving snyder a chance to back out...

Owners always had NFLPA by the balls. They have no power.

I know I'm being a broken record, but the players got completely horse****ed during the cba negotiations. the owners have done whatever they wanted for a year and a half now.

According to sources, the Cowboys and Redskins took immediate cap hits during the 2010 season that normally would have been spread out over the length of the contracts, giving them an advantage that other NFL owners found unfair.
...
According to the sources, the deductions are not termed as violations, but are part of a recent agreement the NFL and the Players Association made to raise the salary cap number while preserving benefit increases and the performance pool.

Its not that the Cowboys and Redskins are being punished for being well over would have been a normal cap number for those arguing they weren't breaking an unwritten rule. They are being punished by probably an amount that is equivalent to the amount they saved by structuring the contracts in such a way that the cap hit was greatest in the uncapped year.

If a team went out and signed all the top FAs to huge 1 year deals in the uncapped year I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have punished at all.

Skins cut Oshiomogho Atogwe and Mike Sellers. The moves save $4.5 million in cap space.

Don't forget the cost of replacing them, which is about $1m to start.
