i don't pay for premium access so i dunno exactly how they are doing this but if it is even remotely accurate then i'm pretty sure that dvoa is better than nothing as well

their preseason projections are obv terrible but we aren't talking about predictive stats here so i don't know why you would bring them up (oh wait i do: you are one disingenious mother****er when you want to argue about something)

niners had +4 TO margin and needed an Alex Smiff 85 yard drive to pull out a victory. Losing that game would have been an embarrassment.

Yeah when he's right he is totally right and he wrote it in stone. But when hes wrong I was supposed to know he just is trolling to be funny and not say anything. It's ingenius.

The anfls offensive ranking is lolbad for arguing against this since it's a stat relative to other teams in the league that year, not relative from year to year. It's not completely crazy to say that there might be the best 3 offenses of all time in the league this season and being 3rd this year is almost certainly a better offense than 1st in 2009.

Edit: Saints offensive DVOA this year was actually only 44% over the regular season, the 49.4% included the Lions game.
Was it broken down? The Saints DVOA was much better as the home team than as the road team. The Saints were 0-4 as a playoff road team. Now they are 0-5. Saints as the home team and Aints as the road team.

Capone, you are not smart. I'll just leave it at that.

It's pretty obvious Saints aren't the same team on the road as they are in the dome. My post had nothing to do with the game though, was just pointing out that mt2r saying 2009 offense >>> 2011 offense is a load of rubbish.

Fwiw though the Saints were basically at their season average mark on offense on Saturday according to DVOA (44%), which implies it was probably above average for road games. DVOA is fairly harsh about turning the ball over (or more accurately throwing ints and fumbling, who recovers the fumbles it ignores) as well, although obviously 2 of the turnovers were on ST rather than offense.

ANFLS certainly seems to have a much stronger grasp of math and such, but at the end of the day their rankings don't do any better ATS than FO. I think they might be worse.

of course I think something very simple like YPP comes close to both of them as well

ANFLS had an article I read evaluating their performance and it was very good.

I will try to find it tomorrow.
