I'm afraid Ucf might go undefeated and get left out of the playoffs. Their schedule looks really weak. Fun team though. I hope they get their shot. A G5 team in the playoffs would be great

I don't think Bama is some clearly unbeatable team that is head and shoulders above everyone else tbh

Their schedule is absolutely a joke, they looked human against an average A&M team, they basically aren't tested until Auburn

Not touching this...

The committee would call every KGB sleeper cell out of retirement to stop this.

Yes but Clempson seems to be on the rise. I've seen several people mention them.

Achievement rankings:
1. Bama
2. Notre Dame (that 1 point loss to Georgia is looking better and better)
3. Pedo State (fine you're undefeated, but beating Iowa by 2 isn't really a win is it)
4. UCF(really!)
5. tOSU
6. Georgia (ho-hum wins over Samford and App State are dragging them down)
7. TCU
8. OkSU
9. Clemp
10. Wisconsin
11. GA Tech (their two losses were by 1 point and their ins were all good)
12. OU (Tulane is the last team they dominated)
13. Washington
14. USC
15. TTU

They didn't smash them as much as it's expected an elite team should.

So you dropped Clemson, Washington State, Auburn, Southern Cal and Virginia Tech out of the top 15, and sneaked in Notre Dame, UCF, OU and Clemp???

Come on, Clemson should still be top 15. A road loss to Syracuse isn't a season-ender.

I guess it is a flaw of computer analysis. As long as you solidly beat Samford, and don't get anyone injured I consider that a win. Sure the computer said you could of beat Samford by more, but no reason to keep running Chubb against Samford.

I've never heard of them, happy to be proven wrong. But top 15?

I found a Clamp Divinity School at Anderson University, but not sure they've got a Division 1 football program.

Yeah, I posted about that issue with achievement rankings last week. I'm not sure exactly the best way to handle it, in part because "achievement" is not so simple to define.

On one hand GA only beat Samford by like 28, and Bama would be like a 50 point favorite over Samford. On the other hand a win is a win. On the other hand "only" winning by 28 is still kinda meh. Like rolling over a team should get you up by 40-50 before you even can realistically get your second string in.

I'm starting from a similar mathematical place that goes into power rankings. Those work well, I've had a few years with them, they have a clear objective (pick winners). They seem to handle the "didn't beat a cupcake by as much as expected" case really well - adjusting a team's rating down but not by a ton.

So on one hand starting with that framework for achievement seems good, on the other hand who knows.

Clamp Divinity would probably beat Sampford easily, but that doesn't mean they should be on a list with Alabampa.

Goofball, I asked this question last week but not sure if you saw it.

Is there a different metric you could use than margin of victory for big spread games?

I feel like everything above 24 points can be classified as a solid drubbing. But in a lot of ways, a 28-3 win is often more impressive than a 65-24 win. For blowout wins, could you use something like YPP differential, or YPP Differential adjusted by quarter, giving more weight to the first half when starters are still in and both teams are probably playing at 100% effort?

This comes up about once every 3 years, and the undefeated non-Power 5 team almost always sucks.

So, since there are already playoff spots reserved for Bama/Clemp/B10Champ, let’s talk about the fourth spot:

TCU? UCF? The FIGHTING IRISH?!?

Anyone else have a reasonable path to playoffing?

If UGA and Bama both go 12-0 then both are making it regardless what happens in SEC Championship or otherwise
