Yeah Halpert is way off...they take the best 4 teams each year, not based on ratings

Reasonable people can argue some of the 4 seed selections but also can agree that who they chose was a fine, justifiable choice

UCF has more alum than any SEC school right?

UCF is massive. 66K undergrad enrollment.

What they really need is to join a real conference—if another conference would have them.

the fact that no one can agree between best and most deserving as the actual criteria is enough to move it to at least 8.

UCF 2017 was quite possibly one of the best 4 teams in the country and they didnt even get a serious consideration. they failed on the most deserving test, but definitely not the best test..

Congrats ucf beat Auburn in a meaningless bowl game after Auburn played the number 1 team 3 games in a row basically. Good job! Auburn =/= an entire division but nice try.

That line has zero chance of going north of 14 points.

but if you had won it would have shown UCF wasn't good enough right? isn't that how that stuff normally goes..

I assume he means they would've lost to Alabama, and well that's kind of the point, they should've played that game.
if we're going down that rabbit hole. I mean LSU lost to Troy that year lol.

So, if you think B12 champ WVU goes over LSU, UGA and UCF:

~22% chance Northwestern wins
~66% Wazzu loses
~78% chance Bama beats UGA

So, that's around an 11% chance WVU gets in if we win out if you believe the above

We're currently a pk against Oklahoma, and if we win would be ~57% against Texas.

So, looking like around 3% equity to make playoffs (if you believe they are in over UCF/UGA/LSU)

Just lol man

It’s complete bull**** Auburn fans are claiming it’s a meaningless bowl. It’s the freaking Peach bowl between top 10 teams. I don’t know whether Auburn gave max effort or not but I’ve read a lot of whining that they didn’t want to be there and didn’t really give UCF their best game.

I think they're the overall frontrunner but whether or not that is true and by how much is highly dependent on where the committee drops them this week. If they put you below Penn State, for instance...

65 is not a small number of teams
It seems to me that very few teams are "likely in" with one loss. However I'll grant that is almost a wash compared to the AP era as few obscure 1 loss teams were NCs.

you just illustrated why a P5 team with playoff aspirations scheduling UCF is a negative freeroll

and fwiw UCF did try to get into the Big 12 and they said no thanks

I've got an easier formula to help you understand WVU's playoff chances. Go buy a donut. Hold it up in front of your face. What number does that look like? That number is your chance at making the playoff.

Can’t be zero

Michigan/LSU/Wazzu/UGA lose this weekend
Northwestern bests tOSU, Bama beats UGA and WVU wins out

After Bama, Clemson, ND, what team goes instead of WVU?

That seems like a lot of work and money. Can you just give the number?
