Figured it'd be Murray after the markets turned upside down, it's fine he's got some gaudy numbers and the team's good.

Also

Snaps played by #Heisman finalists in 2018:

Dwayne Haskins: 1,009
Kyler Murray: 807
Tua Tagovailoa: 588

But, yeah, feel free to bump this if Coach O gets fired from Muscle Shoals High School 15 years from now.

Part of me suspects that the knowledge Murray is probably not coming back influenced the decision-- I bet there was a certain % of voters who figured they could give it to Tua next year if he keeps it up

And as far as the award goes, they were very close on efficiency-- Murray advantage on Y/A, Tua on TD/A (and both of them broke Baker Mayfield's AY/A record)-- and Murray had more volume so I'm fine with it

First thought, Bama could make a run at 900 yards in this game. Second thought the Okie QB is one of the special players in terms of winning time (to wit shootouts and high school career). Third thought, that winning time effect might be moot if your team gets shoved off the field and is staggering like an exhausted boxer by the 3rd quarter. 4th I don't know if this effect of Bama strength will totally skew the game, like a 500 pd. sumo wrestler against a bantamweight ... or not. Just gonna view wondering if the 15 point line is way to low or too high. Cauz I sure don't have an inkling.

Yeah I agree. Bamabros are HOT right now over that stat, Murray had three + more games worth of snaps, Saban finally starts pulling his star QB from games that are out of reach and it costs us the Heisman, etc, but let’s face it Tua lost it in the Georgia game. The betting markets tell us this.

Can't very well give the Heisman to a guy who got yanked from the biggest game of the year.

On the bright side at least Tua was able to stay healthy...oh, oh, oh...oh.

Didn't know this was such srs business for you, but they only played Hallman one time. The era I was talking about was early 80s when they went to LSU 5 years in a row without a return trip and won 4. That's the type of thing that gets an unknown program on the map. They were already in the national spotlight by the time they beat Hallman. They beat McClendon to kick off the streak, who was a pretty damn good coach.

It's not serious for me, but my memories of the team mostly start with the Hallman years, and he was terrible. (How do you average 4-7 at LSU?)

You know things are bad when hiring a guy from Vanderbilt is exciting and making the Weed Eater Bowl doubly so.

Ebbs and flows of down years and high peaks like almost every other major school in the state? Sure. Look at Florida for example. Last 6 years have stretches of bad (4 wins, 4 wins), mediocrity (7 wins) and good years (9 wins, 9 wins, 10 wins). Florida State has 10, 10, 7, and 5 wins. Miami has 5, 10, 9, 8, 6, 9, 7, 6 wins in their last handful of years. UCF has similar peaks and valleys at 13, 12, 6, 0, 9, 12, 10, 5, and 11.

If you mean sustainable as in being undefeated every year? Of course not. Nobody but Bama gets that level of sustainability.

I think there's a big miscommunication going on with the team nationally. They aren't saying "We are now a bonafide top top program forever deal with it". They are saying "Hey, we think we've proven over the course of almost a decade that we have a lot in common with a lot of other programs you give respect to. We've won major bowl games (twice now and have a third opportunity coming up!), we've lost a great team and recruited well enough to get back into a great spot which shows it wasn't just a fluke to get those players, and we've put together a string of winning seasons that not many other people have been able to do (even those that have similar schedules!). You don't ask UNC or Iowa or Nebraska to do 2-1s if you want to schedule them. We don't think it makes sense for you to ask that of us either."

Or maybe that's just how I feel and the AD actually thinks the former. **** if I know
This is from your AD:

Top 10 programs don't schedule two-for-one series where the balance is not in their favor.
He should learn the difference between being ranked in the top 10 and being a top 10 program.

It must be embarrassing to bring in the 70th ranked class as a top 10 program in the richest talent state in the US

More or less embarrassing than averaging the 10th best recruiting class over the last decade and playing roughly .500 ball?

I should think UCF could make some headway in recruiting with the simple "Come to UCF so you don't have to live in one of Florida's two worst cities".

Gonna' try to put up a "little bowls" thread tomorrow for games starting Saturday--everything except playoffs and New Years games. I'd figure separate threads for playoffs, NY6, and the championship game, but if any superfans want to make a whole thread for their big bowl; have at it.

Oh, can anyone tell me why we call it the "New Year's Six" when there are five of them?

Can we just do an all bowls thread? And then have the playoffs in a separate thread? We go thru this every year because there are “little bowls” on January 1st as well as “big bowls” and idiots don’t know what thread to post in. Just make an all bowls thread it’s easier. Ya know people won’t read and start posting in the wrong thread. Separate thread for playoff games
