Not necessary to rely only on the kicker. Could have knelt a time or two to bleed the clock, run one up the middle, if it fails, then kick. Lots of better options than what happened.

ETA: ok, kneeling is not the best option. Running wide but not backwards is viable.

They don't necessarily have to kneel. And the wr could have bled ten seconds or more off the clock before going down.
