NCAA Football TURKEY SHOWDOWN WEEK 13 NCAA Football TURKEY SHOWDOWN WEEK 13

11-19-2017 , 09:40 PM
Gobble Gobble! College Football's best weekend of the year is upon us.

Tuesday, Nov 21, 2017 - NCAA Football Game
7:00 PM 101 Kent State 15
102 Akron -15
With a win, Akron will clinch the MAC East and lock Ohio out of the title game

7:00 PM 103 Bowling Green +13½
104 Eastern Michigan -13½

7:00 PM 105 Miami Ohio -18
106 Ball State 18

Thursday, Nov 23, 2017 - NCAA Football Game
7:30 PM 113 Mississippi 15
114 Mississippi State -15

The SEC is so hilarious. Of these teams' 14 combined wins, EIGHT come against teams ranked 92nd or lower. But hey, Ole Miss beat Kentucky so if they win the Egg Bowl they'll get to go to a Real Bowl! For their part, Mississippi State looks to stay ranked and count as a quality win should Bama lose a game and try to backdoor their way into the playoffs. Criticism aside, rivalry football on Thanksgiving is great. I'm hopeful that this will be close as I hammered the Rebels at the opening line of +17

Friday, Nov 24, 2017 - NCAA Football Game
11:30 AM 117 Western Michigan 14
118 Toledo -14
Toledo will clinch the MAC-West with a win here... it's very marginal but should Miami lose a game and try to squeeze in at 12-1, Toledo winning the MAC could be helpful

12:00 PM 115 Baylor +23½
116 TCU -23½
With a win, TCU will clinch a spot in the Big-12 grand title rematch

12:00 PM 121 Northern Illinois -3½
122 Central Michigan +3½
If Toledo slips up, NIU can win their way in with a victory here.

12:00 PM 129 Navy 5
130 Houston -5

12:00 PM 131 Miami Florida -14
132 Pittsburgh 14

After a predictably slow start, THE U came back to snuff out the wahoos at home last week. Here, they go on the road for the first time in over a month against a Pitt team that suffered a heartbreaker against VT last week when they saw their winning touchdown reviewed and placed at the 1, then were stuffed four consecutive times at the goalline.

1:00 PM 123 Ohio -3
124 Buffalo 3

2:30 PM 125 Missouri -11½
126 Arkansas +11½

3:30 PM 127 New Mexico +19½
128 San Diego State -19½

3:30 PM 137 South Florida +11½
138 Central Florida -11½

4:00 PM 133 Iowa -3
134 Nebraska 3

4:00 PM 135 Texas State 25
136 Troy -25

7:00 PM 139 Western Kentucky -2
140 Florida International 2

8:00 PM 119 Virginia Tech -7
120 Virginia 7

After going 2-10 in his first season, UVA has improved under Bronco Mendenhall, beating Boise and GT en route to bowl eligibility. VT will take third in the ACC with a win here after holding on against Pitt yesterday.

8:00 PM 141 Texas Tech 11
142 Texas -11

Texas finally broke through and continues to be the most underrated team in the country, coming in at #22 on Sagarin despite their paltry 6-5 record. Tech needs to pull the upset here to go bowling, and keep Ryan Gosling off the hot seat.

10:30 PM 143 California 7
144 UCLA -7

Should be a pretty good #Pac12AfterDark matchup here, with bowl eligibility on the line for both teams. Cal's had a surprisingly good season in Wilcox' first year with OOC wins over Ole Miss and UNC and a huge upset over Wazzu. UCLA is favored by a TD here despite (or due to?) firing Mora, as HOT CHIP rumors abound.

Saturday, Nov 25, 2017 - NCAA Football Game
12:00 PM 145 Connecticut 5
146 Cincinnati -5

12:00 PM 151 Indiana +2½
152 Purdue -2½

Bowl eligibility on the line for both, as Indiana is coming off of a dominating performance against Rutgers, while Purdue just beat Iowa on the road to further enhance the laughability of Ohio State's blowout loss.

12:00 PM 153 Ohio State -11½
154 Michigan +11½

Fun fact via The Athletic: Michigan has more touchdowns this season by fullbacks than receivers. Fun fact via Galen's eyeballs: None of the stiff white guys Michigan keeps lining up at QB are very good football players. Ohio State looks to send a message here to keep themselves in the playoff hunt. Also, they'll try to hold Michigan under 20 passing yards, which would somehow be the FOURTH time this season OSU has done that. (Though idk if Army should really count)

12:00 PM 165 Louisville -10
166 Kentucky 10

Kentucky is 7-4 despite being outgained by 0.48 yards a play, which is ****ing insane. (For comparison, Louisville is also 7-4 but is outgaining opponents by 1.82 yards per play). Lamar Jackson keeps doing his thing, and somehow the line on this game opened at -9 and is still only at -10. I think the cards roll by 20+ here.

12:00 PM 167 Georgia -11½
168 Georgia Tech +11½

GT checks in at #29 in the predictor, despite their 5-5 record, losing @ Miami by 1, to Tennessee by 1, @ UVA by 4, and @ Clemson by 14. This will be a surprisingly stout test for Georgia, and should be over pretty quick as both teams like to RUN. DA. FUTBAW.

12:00 PM 203 Tulane +7½
204 SMU -7½

12:00 PM 205 Kansas +40½
206 Oklahoma State -40½

12:00 PM 221 East Carolina +27½
222 Memphis -27½

12:00 PM 227 Florida State -5
228 Florida 5

I'm introducing the italic as a 'minus bold' feature, so we can be sure to mark this game for it's hilarity. Have FSU and UF ever met with 6 losses before? This has gotta be a first, right?

12:30 PM 157 Duke 12
158 Wake Forest -12

1:00 PM 173 North Texas -13½
174 Rice +13½

1:00 PM 223 UTEP 20
224 UAB -20

2:00 PM 159 Appalachian State -6
160 Georgia State 6

2:00 PM 175 Florida Atlantic -22
176 Charlotte 22

2:30 PM 179 Southern Miss +4½
180 Marshall -4½

3:00 PM 181 UNLV +2½
182 Nevada -2½

3:00 PM 189 Arkansas State -8
190 UL Monroe 8

3:00 PM 191 Old Dominion 12
192 Middle Tennessee State -12

3:30 PM 155 North Carolina 17
156 NC State -17

3:30 PM 163 Iowa State +2½
164 Kansas State -2½

3:30 PM 169 Penn State -20½
170 Maryland +20½

3:30 PM 193 Wisconsin -17
194 Minnesota 17

Wisconsin's final regular season test is against a team that lost 39-0 to Northwestern. Now, Northwestern is ranked, but remember that they lost to Duke and actually nobody in the entire Big-10 has beaten a decent team from outside the conference so it's actually still totally plausible (likely?) that the entire conference sucks a lot.

3:30 PM 201 Boise State -7
202 Fresno State 7

For some reason, the MWC decided to play its championship game a week early. Wait, what? This isn't the championship? Oh, weird. Fresno and Boise are playing this week in a warm up, and then running it back next week. There's still some chance that Boise steals the G5 crown, but the fighting Tedfords will have two chances to stop them.

3:30 PM 225 Alabama -4½
226 Auburn +4½

You may have heard, but this is an important football game.

3:45 PM 209 West Virginia 23
210 Oklahoma -23

Baker Mayfield continues to Manziel his way through FBS, and this will be his final tune-up before the rematch with TCU that I bet the Big-12 wishes they hadn't forced upon the conference. WVU is without Will Grier so I doubt this one will be close, but it should be easy for OU's defense to put up a strong performance to impress the committee enough to move them off of the "#4 and having to play Bama first" spot.

4:00 PM 149 Michigan State -12½
150 Rutgers +12½

4:00 PM 161 Vanderbilt 1
162 Tennessee -1

lol.

4:00 PM 171 Northwestern -16½
172 Illinois +16½

4:30 PM 207 Arizona -1
208 Arizona State 1

The Kahlil Tate train finally ran out of gas at Oregon last week as Justin Herbert returned from injury and presumably stole all of KT's mojo.

5:00 PM 215 Georgia Southern 6
216 UL Lafayette -6

7:00 PM 211 Oregon State 26
212 Oregon -26

7:30 PM 197 Clemson -14
198 South Carolina 14

I assume Clemson will be resting Kelly Bryant so that they can freeroll this game, as losses where he doesn't play are excluded from their record.

7:30 PM 199 Texas A&M 10
200 LSU -10

7:30 PM 219 UTSA pk
220 Louisiana Tech pk

8:00 PM 183 Washington State +9½
184 Washington -9½

The Apple Cup should be pretty great this year. Wazzu wins and they're in to the P-12CG, while a Washington win would boost them to 10-2 but elevate Stanford to the title game for a rematch with USC

8:00 PM 195 Notre Dame -2½
196 Stanford +2½

ND still has faint title hopes, while Stanford has quietly rebounded from their 1-2 start to be on the brink of the Pac-12 title game and yet another top-10 ranking. Also, they beat Cal for the 8th time in a row, so yeah **** my life right?

9:00 PM 229 BYU -2½
230 Hawaii +2½

10:00 PM 187 Colorado +10½
188 Utah -10½

Also, another fun fact!

Fsu rescheduled their cancelled game with UL Monroe for next week during conference title week. If they lose to UF, there's no way they are going bowling and their bowl streak will be dead so this game will be hilarious for existing the same day the conference title games are being played solely for the fact that fsu is playing in none of those haha

What do you meant dealt? Hasn't he been in charge for three years now? Shouldn't it fall on him to have a competent QB on the roster?

That's interesting given that both had some really putrid teams in the 1970s, albeit not in the same years. FSU went 0-11 in 1973, 1-10 in 1974, and then 3-8 in 1975. (Gee, I wonder why the coach was fired after that.) Florida went 4-7 in 1971 & 1978, and then bottomed out at 0-10-1 in 1979.

Great OP this week, and all year.

I enjoy the watchability ratings and the dashboards, but you do a great job of putting into context the games outside the SEC that I have a passing interest in, but don't know as much about because the SEC is all I watch.

And I find the lines, schedule, and TV schedule extremely convenient to be in one place.

I hope you win lots of monies at it

(in between shipping the occasional donkament obv)

LOL somehow I didn't even bold USF vs UCF!

Winning all your games is hard, even when playing crappy teams, so it's not a surprise that USF dropped one (by 4, to a decent Houston squad that also beat Arizona and hung with Texas Tech), but it's still a bummer.

UCF faces two ranked teams in its last two games, but it looks like that won't be enough to get them close to the playoffs. There are still at least four teams that are live for the G5 berth though. UCF obviously gets it if they win out, and it seems likely that USF and Memphis would as well. Boise's only shot is probably for Memphis to inexplicably lose to ECU then turn around and win the AAC.

Just for the sake of conversation, let's say Bama, Miami and Oklahoma win out.

That means Clemson loses their 2nd, UGA loses their 2nd, Auburn loses their 3rd and TCU loses it's 3rd.

TCU and Auburnb are safely out at that point.

Let's also say UCF closes with 2 top-25 wins over USF and Memphis. Let's also say that they are both decisive.

Would USF be ahead of:
-2 loss Clemson? Or would they need Clemson to lose to South Caro? (What if Miami loses to Pitt, then beats Clemson??)
-2 loss UGA? Or would they need UGA to lose to GT as well? (I assume if UGA loses to GT then beats Bama they are in for sure, as would be Bama... although actually idk if UGA makes it here)
Also, in this scenario Bama will still be #1 and will have JUST beaten UGA, and UGA couldn't be anything but #4. I would think a rematch, esp if Bama won big would be very unattractive.

-B1G champ? I assume they wouldn't jump Ohio State if OSU wins out, but what if Ohio State loses to Michigan then wins? Surely then they are ahead of both, right? What if Wisconsin loses to Minnesota, then wins? Again, surely UCF gets it, right? And surely Penn State would not a playoff berth by sitting out as Michigan/OSU/Wisconsin all drop an extra game?

Would they jump:
10-2 ND who could close with a win over Stanford?
11-2 USC who would close with a win over Stanford?

Or would they need Stanford to win both those games... surely 3-loss Stanford wouldn't jump them, right?

Or if Wazzu beats Washington and USC to close, would Wazzu jump UCF in spite of their 2 losses and horrible loss at Cal?

Navy upsetting ND would've been pretty huge for them

In this scenario, Clemson winning out and Miami losing to Pitt and Clemson works too.

I assume if TCU beats Oklahoma, TCU gets in ahead of UCF, although it'd be weird if TCU loses to Baylor and OK State or WV beats Oklahoma but that seems pretty unlikely.

I think if Bama, Miami, Oklahoma, Stanford all win out, and the B1G winner loses next week, UCF is in. (OR if Miami loses 2 and Clemson wins, but I think Miami needs to lose 2)
NCAA Football TURKEY SHOWDOWN WEEK 13 Quote
11-20-2017 , 02:16 PM
Err, they don't even need Oklahoma to win out, it's just the TCU/Oklahoma winner getting that spot

Although, thinking about it, Clemson might still stay in at 11-2... they have a lot of good wins and that would create a great Clemson-Bama rematch in the first round
NCAA Football TURKEY SHOWDOWN WEEK 13 Quote
11-20-2017 , 02:47 PM
Well I think the PAC is the odd man out (still behind ND and the B1G) and I don't think UCF has a good chance of catching even them; #14 Wazzu already jumped #15 UCF last week.

UCF effectively was 14th with #13 Oklahoma State losing. #22 Stanford will probably rise 2 spots due to others' losses, but (hopefully unless committee is braindead) no higher based on their 3 point win over Cal. Beating #8 ND and then #11 USC or #~13 Wazzu could easily propel Stanford ahead of UCF. Who's actually going to favor wins over South Florida and Memphis when the other guy beats Notre Dame and USC, or Washington and USC?

Obviously they won't pass ND without a ND loss to Stanford.

I suppose it's possible USC's bye then victory over Wazzu with Stanford beating ND may just look underwhelming enough? Maybe?

Do you even think they're a favorite to finish ahead of any of the 3 B1g teams? Sure, *I'm* eager to drop Wisconsin completely off the board, but maybe they get blown out by tOSU and they fall 3 spots with the claim of "body of work".

UCF is ****ed, basically. I think they need the moonshot of being the only undefeated team and sort of put in on a lark. Even then, how likely is it they even manage to play with their current head coach?

Is Alabama in with a loss this weekend?

So many scenarios still to play out, basically I think the only simple way to break it down is who is in if they win out.

As of right now, I think Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, Miami, Wisconsin, Oklahoma are the teams that don't need help.

Worst case scenario for the teams that need help is Alabama losing to either Georgia or Auburn because one loss Bama is still more than likely in the Playoff.

It feels rare that we have this many close games near the end that still need to shake out for the playoff race.

I feel like every time I try to simplify the playoff race, it just turns into rambling.

Gonna start with who I think is still alive. I think even with mass, mass chaos, teams like UCF and Penn St are still drawing dead.

Still alive:

Auburn
Alabama
Georgia
Clemson
Miami
Oklahoma
Wisconsin
Ohio St

I honestly don't see anybody else having a shot barring miracles (Wisconsin or Ohio State going loss/win).

Teams' final results Resume rankings (just spitballing here but I think this is the best way to go about it)

1. Undefeated Bama
2. Undefeated Miami
3. Undefeated Wisconsin
4. One-Loss Clemson
5. One-Loss Georgia
6. One-Loss Alabama
7. Two-Loss Auburn
8. One-Loss Oklahoma
9. One-Loss Miami
10. Two-Loss Ohio St
11. Two-Loss Notre Dame
12. Two-Loss Georgia

Honestly it gets murky once you get to #6

Speight (original starter) is a Hoke Recruit.

Peters (#2 technically, played 3 games, then got hurt against Wisconsin) is a Harbaugh recruit, true soph.

O'Korn (Started the year at #2, has performed woefully outside of one half of football against Purdue) is a transfer from Houston who transferred the year Harbaugh came to Michigan and was eligible for the first year last year.

Alex Malzone was a 4-star QB Recruit who hasn't panned out at all, and I guess is the nominal backup for the OSU game.

Dylan McCaffery (yes those McCafferys) is a 4-star Freshman recruit who is redshirting this year but might compete for the job next year.
