Tennessee has to be up there, but A&M is the clear #1

Poor Purdue. They’re going to be Rutgers West.

Poor ReddBoiler.
Brohm's wiki currently lists him as the Louisville coach (2019-)

I knew he played there but I didn't realize he also grew up in Louisville and coached for the Louisville Fire and University for his first seven years.

Can't really fault him. Bad timing but who knows whether he would get that opportunity again. I am sure Brohm figured Petrino would last longer than he did.

Les miles gave up 5M from LSU to coach Kansas*. Bold strategy.

*hasn't been announced but why the hell would you give up 5 million otherwise?*

Well he was about to give up $6.5 million and simply not coaching for the next four years would have cost him considerably more. Hearing he may be interested in the Colorado job, which would obviously make a lot more sense from a "this job doesn't have to suck" perspective.

I just figured he settled the rest of the buyout with LSU so he wouldn’t have to throw his name out there every year and so he can stop interviewing for jobs he doesn’t want. That was the whole reason we keep hearing his name with every job now is so he can get paid from LSU right

sure there's a ton of great deluded fanbases

but Texas is special because most of the deluded fanbases are of teams that are irrelevant, and the system is neutral towards them

whereas Texas has literally every possible structural advantage, probably moreso than anyone else, and then they have the absolute nerve to pick out pieces of that structure and, one by one, claim those pieces are actually conspiracies AGAINST them

Counterpoint; Texas is currently ranked two spots below Florida by the committee despite the same record, a better resume, being a 4.5 point favorite at a neutral site, and not having a quarterback who is taunt-shushing his own home crowd several times in a game. Florida is not even a team that's been a real competitor for a while either.

I can forgive them feeling a bit conspired against right now.

On an unrelated note; it occurs to me Purdue's getting blown out by Minnesota makes a lot more sense if Brohm was busy with contract negotiations that week. Seems like they should be angry.

Second unrelated not; my recollection of that championship game was; Bama blew them out -> Bama went into turtle mode daring a freshman to make things happen -> When he did they stopped turtling -> Bama blew them out again. But then again I was a little distracted by hookers and blow at halftime.

I wouldn't, but we're splitting hairs. Really, it depends on what factors you emphasize. It's clearly a lateralish move and not a major upgrade or downgrade. He'll get paid and it's his hometown, his school.

His LSU payments were like 1.5 million a year but had an income offset, and so since he knew he was going to come back to coaching this year he obviously would’ve made more than 1.5 and so would’nt have gotten anything from LSU while he was being paid by someone else. He wasn’t required to do anything to get that money, but just had to deduct from it any income he did have.

So they just cut him the one time check and ended it. His people approached LSU about it back in September.
