Arkansas hires the AD from Houston. He tried to hire Lane Kiffin last year but they wouldn’t approve it.

2) Arizona State Athletic Director Ray Anderson, on the state of the program:

“I want you to know that ASU football is nobody’s rebuild. This is not a start-up, this is not a start over. We need to take the next step in competitive consistency and I believe Herman Edwards can take us there.”

3) ASU head coach Herm Edwards, on what aspects of his career will help him be successful at ASU:

“I delegate things to people. I believe you delegate things to people so they feel like they’re part of it. That’s important to me, delegating people. They understand that I’m going to delegate it to you. I’m a good listener. I don’t have all the answers. Trust me, I don’t have all the answers. But I’m always in search for knowledge and I think when you delegate responsibility to coaches you uplift them.”
DELEGATING PEOPLE TO UPLIFT THEM

Quote:
4) Edwards, on his experience coaching in the Under Armour All-American game and how great players will play well:

“‘OK, Jameis Winston. Are you Jameis Winston?’ and he said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘You know this guy over here?’ And he says, ‘No, who is that?’ And I said, ‘His name is Amari Cooper!’ And I told them to stand up. The offensive coach was sitting there and I said, ‘Jameis, this is Amari, Amari this is Jameis,’ and I said, ‘Here’s the plan. Jameis, you throw it to Amari. Amari, you catch it.’ Scored 40-something points, ended up going pretty good. That’s kind of football, you know? You’ve got a good quarterback, you’ve got a good player, give them the ball. Doesn’t change.”

INTRODUCING PLAYERS TO EACH OTHER

Quote:
5) Edwards, on part of his recruiting gameplan

“Athletes from all over the country should be coming back here. Guys in California and Los Angeles should be coming here. Why is this not the destination? Why can’t it be? That’s my job. That’s my job to go into those homes and tell those parents, ‘This is the place you want to send your son because when he leaves here, he’ll be fully ready to deal with anything that comes across his way.’”
WE'RE IN THE ARMY NOW.
WE'RE NOT BEHIND A PLOW.
WE'LL NEVER GET RICH DIGGING A DITCH.
WE'RE IN THE ARMY NOW

Quote:
6) Anderson on recruiting desires:

“What is the competitive consistency that we are looking for as we go forward? In recruiting really great student-athletes, four and five-star student athletes from all over the place where talent is. We haven’t done that well. Developing players and coaching players to their highest potential so that those players that in fact have aspirations to go to the NFL are in fact being ready and prepared here to do that. We haven’t done that well. Competitive consistency in developing and retaining assistant coaches so that we can have that continuity and that stability and that recruiting quality and that consistency that we need here.”
'CROOTS

Quote:
7) A reporter from an outlet with the word “Devils” in the name asked Edwards a question. The head coach responded with:

“I’m a Catholic, I’m a Christian, watch out them Devils. Just saying, I ain’t taking it personally.”
GOD VS SATAN WEEK 3 2018

Quote:
8) Anderson, on the new CEO role and overall system that ASU will implement:

“The football head coach is going to get a lot of support from other folks outside of the traditional model. You will see much more of the participation of [the athletic department]. It is going to be an all-in, all hands on board. It is going to be an all-hands-on-deck effort to upgrade football the way we’ve upgraded in some of our other sports. It will be a collaboration. Our head football coach will not be needed to — and will not be expected to — control it all and do it all.”
ALL HANDS ON BOARD? ALL HANDS ON DECK?

Spoiler:

Quote:
10) Edwards, on innovation in coaching and how he has kept up with that innovation during his time away from coaching:

“When I’m invited to go to Alabama and when I’m invited to go to Michigan and these places where I’ve talked to the teams and visited with coaches, I see the innovation. I sit down there. I’m always constantly learning.”
OSMOSIS, BITCHES

Quote:
11) Edwards, on a change he would make in modern day football:

“We don’t huddle anymore in our society. That’s the problem with it to be quite honest. When you become a part of a team, and you become a part of a football team and you look to the left and you look to the right, there’s this bond that says, ‘I’m not letting that guy down. Not today. Not ever.’”

Quote:
12) Edwards on ASU’s new model and retaining assistant coaches

“They’re football coaches. If they’re good football coaches, they’re good football coaches. When I turn the tape on and watch your player play, what are you doing to help this guy? That’s what I want to know. Can you make this guy a better football player? You can’t give him talent but fundamentally and mentally, is he a better football player because he played under your watch? That’s all I want to know. Can you develop the players we have here? That’s all I care about.”

Honestly feel a little bad for ASU fans, as if decades of mediocrity wasn’t enough, they now have a meme as their head coach

All aboard the Lane Train. Apparently last year, he wanted to give Kiffin a bigger buy out than he wanted. Not sure the validity to that rumor.

Also, Seattle reporting we interviewed Mike Leach earlier today. Kiffin > Leach for sure.

I just checked ASU's schedule. I don't see any freebies on there. After listening to Herm's presser, there is a chance they don't win a game next year. Herm better be really good at delegating.

They are going on the road against SDSU. Their AD should be fired for scheduling that and if that wasn't enough, hiring Herm.

Taggart and Leavitt to FSU would be incredible. Their assistants were mostly trash this year, can't believe how pathetic the D looked with so much NFL talent. They've had like 7 decommits though so hopefully Taggart can salvage the class.

They should be able to handle UTSA and/or Oregon State.

Did it though? They only allowed 4.7 yards per play on the season.

I don't understand any of this at all. I've heard more about ASU football in last 2 days than in the previous 2 years. This is a win even if it is just a PR move.
