Lane Kiffin. The man has turned in a solid season! FAU's first winning record in 9 years, already matched their all-time high for wins with 2 games left, and seemingly ready to re-crush North Texas for their first C-USA title. This was a team with no expectations whatsoever. The following teams are crazy to FAIL to consider him, and I think he'd leave FAU for them, in order of most to gain/hilarity:

Any Service Academy!
Georgia Tech
Vanderbilt
Florida
Tulane
Tennessee
North Carolina
Arkansas
UCF

Ole Miss
Syracuse
TAMU
Missouri
Kansas State
Kansas
Rutgers
Maryland
Iowa
Nebraska
Illinois
Boise State
Hawaii
Oregon State
UCLA
Colorado

Now I know what you're thinking; "That's everybody." Exactly! Everybody would upgrade with Lane. Especially Georgia Tech. Go ahead, tell me Illinois wouldn't win more games with Lane.

Lane going to Hawaii makes me giggle for some reason.

How much longer is Saban going to plague college football? He's 67 next year. Maybe Kiffin will be the next Bama head ball coach.

Yeah I can't really see Chip heading to Gainesville after having grown so accustomed to the luxuries of cosmopolitan Eugene.

Bama will insta-hire Dabo the minute Saban's retirement speech ends. In fact I'd be surprised if there wasn't a gentlemen's agreement already in place.

Kiffin was only ever there because Saban gets to do whatever the **** he wants in Tuscaloosa. When Saban is gone so goes any reason for Kiffin to have ever existed there.

here's a quick summary of the backstory from a past r/cfb post

Quote:
If you look closely at Autzen, they removed all of our "Win The Day" slogan posters, and every other Oregon-specific piece of paneling and replaced it with generic Pac-12/sponsored ones. I think he meant it as a bit of sarcasm to the fact that the Pac-12 basically ransacked our stadium. Couple that with the fact that he gave the trophy to our as-of-last-week fired president, and I think he's just trying to make a statement or two
it was 100% sarcasm when he said it.

So as the resident Service Academy (Army) and Triple Option fan, Lane would be a clear downgrade from Ken N. at Navy or Jeff Monken at Army. Ken N. has had ridiculous success the last decade. Monken has engineered Army’s turnaround (8-3!). He also beat Florida while coaching Ga. Southern without throwing a single pass.

Air Force is bad this year, so Lane may very well be an upgrade in Colorado Springs.

preface by saying i don't closely follow Service Academy football and know all the nuances, so bear with me for a few minutes...
...but from what i do know about Army and Navy with their unique schemes it reminds me a little of #2 Chip.

Army & Navy run variants of the wishbone/flexbone, which puts the QB in play as someone the defense has to account for in the running game (New Hampshire and Oregon with Chip was more of a Run/Pass option) when the offense has 11 players in action and reads off of a defensive player to make the option decision, suddenly the offense effectively has 11 players and the defense has 10. this puts pressure on the rest of the defense to make correct decisions.

what does this matter? forcing the defense to make the correct decision time and time again is one of the only ways weaker athletes can find and potentially exploit an edge over better athletes. weaker athletes like the ones that are recruited to Army, Navy, etc. this also exploits NCAA limits on practice time, because how much can you run live practice squad looks against something you'll only see one week a year? combine that with unique 2 point conversion formations like the swinging gate and other well known anomalies an the other team just doesn't have much time to prepare.

+1 to all.

I’ve become a big triple option fan over the years. I’ve further wondered what a team with above-average talent could do in the modern game with the system (though it’s a paradox since 4/5 star players won’t play in a system that wouldn’t showcase their talent for the NFL.

Here’s a nice option primer from last year before the Army/Navy.

https://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...fense-flexbone

Here’s also a more in-depth breakdown of the option system from Grantland a few years back:

I think Paul Johnson has a 750k/yr buyout for 3 years left on his contract. Is that what’s preventing him from being on hot seat?

You do understand at 8-3 you could improve to 9-2 or better, right?

I mean, I don't mean to be a dick about this BUT you're 8-3 because of a really soft schedule and a 4-2 record in 1-score games. You're 69th in Sagarin behind South Dakota State and barely ahead of NEBRASKA, ffs. Now I appreciate that you guys are finally allowing your linemen to put on a little weight, but Lane would be forcefeeding those guys like geese so that you could actually throw the ball sometimes. Plus he brings the kids whores! Seriously, you'd love him.

http://footballscoop.com/news/report...-jim-harbaugh/

Michigan is working on a lifetime contract for Harbaugh. This seems like a bad idea, no? What if he goes 0-10 against osu in the next ten years, what then? What's the buyout for a lifetime contract? Death? This seems nuts given that he hasn't really even accomplished anything there yet. Hasn't beat ohio st, hasn't won a conference title, and most importantly hasn't won a natty. Yeh, he's turned the program around and won some games but this seems crazy, and I like Harbaugh.
