Listening to Lebatard podcast the other day and he was talking about the Packers coaches teaching Shields to play corner. They were shocked and said he would have been a 1st rounder if he had played corner all 4 years. They were amazed at how he didn't even understand verbiage or concepts of the position and had to make flashcards for him, and they wondered what Shannon was doing down there. I know the U had good defensive stats with him, but either they succeeded despite him, or he was simply not able to handle the job in totality. Good fire, they were horribly coached with a pretty decent amount of talent.

It's going to be Mike Leach imo. He was rumored the last time around and this time he'd be much cheaper.

It's a job with better chances to succeed but Tuberville would have to take a pay cut from his $2 mil/year gig at Texas Tech.

I'd take a pay cut to get the **** out of Lubbock. Plus, he hates the Big 12-2+2

If Miami is smart enough to get Leach or Malzahn **** could get pretty ridiculous. Those teams would be awesome

They already screwed up the Leach deal once. I fully expect them to hire someone like Schiano or Houston Nutt

Supposedly Miami is shying away from another first year coach, so with their budget issues that would leave candidates like Leach, Jim Leavitt, Schiano, etc. who are "damaged goods".

Dids, the reason I think Miami would be a force very soon w/Gruden is not b/c I think Gruden would be an awesome coach, but just that any non-****** coach should have Miami rolling. It just so happens that Shannon and Coker (esp. Coker) are beyond awful coaches, but pretty much every other non-probation coach in recent memory has had Miami in MNC contention, so I don't see why Gruden wouldn't as well.

Their facilities, fan base, and and budget are weaknesses, but the fact that you pretty much just have to hang on to your S. Florida recruits and you're almost guaranteed a top 10 class + Miami is an awesome city for college kids + their history more than overrides those weaknesses. Hell, if all the Miami Northwestern HS kids stayed together and became U of Miami's team they'd still probably be close to a top 50 team.

Not really sure why I'm defending Miami so much, guess I've grown a bit of compassion for them b/c Shannon's a good guy and FSU/Miami sucking so hard makes the ACC a laughingstock.

He wouldn't have to recruit.... players would be dropping in his lap.

Obviously Shannon had to go, but I always feel bad when coaches who seem to do things "the right way" get fired. His kids graduated, they didn't get into trouble, and as far as I have heard it seems like he ran a pretty clean program.

Have either of you been to their facilities? Not sure where this is coming from, but possible I guess as I have not been in their facilities in ~12 years.

Regarding UM fans... well they are like LA fans. When the team is losing, there is better stuff to do. I mean, wtf is someone in Michigan or Ohio gonna do besides the game?

It would be a total coup if Leach or Gruden ended up at the U and I'd have to go change my boxers.

I've always been told the U has the nicest facilities and that's why a lot of their alumni come back to practice in the NFL off-season.

Mark May: "They don't have great facilities"

Even the author, who is defending Miami, admits they can recruit great players despite their facilities.

AP Story on Miami's facilities: "Miami has long been maligned for not having state-of-the-art facilities"

You're wrong about their facilities bravos, but I agree with your other points.

How come Miami can't get some of their pro football alums together to upgrade the facilities? It wouldn't get them a new stadium, but surely they could get a few million together to get better practice/workout facilities.

On the FSU boards, one guy who knows someone on Miami's Board of Trustees said they're looking hard at Gruden, and he's interesting.

Another guy said they haven't really contacted anyone and are just gathering names, the firing was a knee-jerk reaction to losing to USF at home in front of only 10k fans.

Of course he's interesting. I bet Bill Cowher is interesting too, but they aren't getting him either.

Gruden to Miami = poop your pants scary for the ACC if it were to happen.
I got scared today when Carolina almost ruined their #1 draft pick.

Haha, well I meant he's interested.

This article would suggest otherwise, but I don't know how reliable it is and would be pretty surprised if Miami shells out 3 million a year for a coach. Although from an investment standpoint it would make a lot of sense b/c he'd bring a huge influx of cash into the program if he returned them to the top.

One small problem makes it blasphemy.

So they're putting in $70 million into the total athletic facilities. Def seems like a good direction to be going. The first article mentioning the fact that they play in a stadium 20 miles off campus is pretty much a none point. They've always played off campus and shared facilities w/ the Dolphins.

Gruden and Miami
please oh please ... ONE TIME!

Miami has not been really willing to drop $3M/yr for a coach in quite a while, but I hope this article is some what reliable. I agree that he would be a good investment and bring in a bunch of new money into the program which isn't there right now. A program like Miami has the ability to be a national powerhouse again in very short turn-around if the proper steps are made. I think getting Gruden would be a huge step in the right direction towards that end goal.
