Mike Haywood from Miami to Pitt. Never saw that coming from his days at ND, he had playcalling duty yanked after half a season. I'd be wary if I was Pitt though, he could be Turner Gill 2.0 parlaying a luckbox season into a step up, right down to the ridiculous MAC championship win

Wow, one season of success in the MAC gets you the Pitt job? Pitt has ridiculous expectations at this point. OSU and PSU constantly poach their recruiting areas. The two previous coaches have been fired in seasons where they tied for the BigEast championship.

What sort of signal does that send to prospective coaches? "Come to Pitt. We'll fire you for winning the conference, so start bringing home the crystal footballs."

I guess they try to snatch them while they can in a competitive market rather than wait for him to rattle of three 9-win seasons and risk someone else hiring him.

I wonder if anyone has considered Josh McDaniels. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he was a pretty good college coach.

Does Josh have any college experience? I can see a lower level type program giving him a shot. Like a UCF type school or something.

Just saw on CSN that Maryland is "strongly considering" buying out Friedgen's contract. That's all I know - I had to switch channels to appease my daughter.

^LOL remote controlaments

Something has to be up because why would the HCIW at Maryland pass that job up for Vandy? Or am I missing something about the HCIW deal? Wasn't he guaranteed the job or a bunch of money?

Debbie Yow gave Franklin the HCIW as a big FU to Friedgen. We got a new AD about 3 months ago since Yow left for Nc State. He publicly said he was against the HCIW and Franklin knew that. They clause in the contract was that we owed Franklin $1 mil if he wasn't HC by 2012 season and if they made him HC he got i think a 5 year deal at 2mil/yr or something absurd. Anderson didn't attempt to keep Franklin and told him that he would not become the HC at Maryland. In all likelihood Franklin is taking 4-6 assistants with him and this sped up the clock on the end of Friedgen and now Franklin owes the school $250k for leaving early. Leach is becoming more and more of a possibility due to Kevin Plank and Under Armour. There is talk on MD boards that Anderson would not make this move without Leach already lined up, but we shall see.

At least he can get right to recruiting and you don't have to worry about him coaching the national championship game.

Lolol at the following paragraph from Joe Schad:

Quote:
Sources said that former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach would be the leading candidate to replace Friedgen if he is forced into retirement, with former Washington coach Tyrone Willingham and current New Mexico coach Mike Locksley also candidates for the job.
Better hope Mike Leach says yes!

how is locksley a candidate anywhere?

Quote:
In late May 2009, a former administrative assistant at New Mexico filed an age and sex discrimination complaint against Locksley with the Equal Opportunity Commission.[11] The complaint was filed by Locksley's former administrative assistant Sylvia Lopez. Lopez claimed to have been subjected to age and sexual discrimination before being transferred out of Locksley's office. The claims were later withdrawn.[12]

In late September 2009, Locksley was reprimanded for an altercation with an assistant coach, in which he hit the assistant. He was subsequently suspended without pay for ten days. He was not on the sideline for the game against UNLV on October 24, 2009.[13][14]

Locksley led his Lobos to 1–11 records his first and second seasons. Despite fan outcry to fire him,[15] he will return for his third season. The high buyout is a large reason UNM cannot fire him. UNM athletic director Paul Krebs, who made the decision to retain Locksley, expects improvement in the 2011 season.[16]
