Jim Harbaugh will be the head coach of the Carolina Panthers and Andrew Luck will be their starting QB (I hope).

Gruden to Miami = poop your pants scary for the ACC if it were to happen.

He wasn't good at anything besides recruiting so good riddance.

Why should Shannon get more time? Every guy on the team is his so you can't use the argument that they aren't "his" guys and he basically has a top 10 recruiting class gifted to him every year by virtue of his school's location. Great guy and he's really cleaned up the program, but it doesn't appear he can get it done on the football field.

He isn't even good at that. His 07, '09, '10 classes were horrible by Miami's standards, and his '08 class which looked good on paper hasn't really panned out on the field. He might look good in comparison to Coker I guess, but Coker might be the worst recruiter in the history of football.

Gruden basically has zero track record as a recruiter, right? I mean I can see why people might suspect he'd make a good college coach, but acting like his hiring would be a lock for Miami to get back on top seems like a pretty big assumption.

For some reason beyond his resume some think he's a college football coaching god...

It's a program that can succeed and being offered $4-5 million per year on a 5+ year contract is something you at least listen to when they call up.

Granted I don't exactly have access to their books, but I'd be shocked if Miami has the money to offer anyone $4-$5 million a year. Their facilities suck and they always seem to have budget issues.

Miami isn't a 4-5 mil a year job. They were paying Shannon 1.3 and that was after giving him an extension and 400k a year raise.

They need to hire Gus Malzahn and all of their problems will be solved.

Please don't hire Gus. Please. He told me he's happy at Auburn. :-D

I would love to see Gruden flip out coaching 20 year old qbs. The guy can't function unless his QB is in his early 30s

That former USF coach needs a job right? Whats his name? Jim Leavitt? He knows the state fairly well and probably won't demand a huge salary like a big name coach. Plus, he wouldn't have to move far from his former home in tampa.

He'd be a good fit imo. I can see the U going for him if they can't get a big name.

Mark Richt went to Miami. UGA just finished it's worst regular season in his 10 years there. Thoughts?

Richt isn't leaving UGA unless he's forced out imo.

Completely agree. For one thing his salary would be cut in half or so.

If they get a big name coach, Mike Leach makes the most sense IMO. His system with the talent of Florida would be pretty interesting to watch.

They also would do well to look at someone like Skip Holtz who I think would be a fantastic hire.

loooooooool at thinking Miami can afford this. Miami has **** facilities and no money. It's only regarded as a high profile job b/c of Miami's history and the ridic talent pool that it sits in the middle of, and stuff like that.

Obviously Shannon had to go, but I always feel bad when coaches who seem to do things "the right way" get fired. His kids graduated, they didn't get into trouble, and as far as I have heard it seems like he ran a pretty clean program.

I had no idea Miami couldn't even pay half the going rate of SEC head coaches. I think some SEC coordinators make close to a million.

It's still a good job if you can feed the family on $1.5 mil or whatever they can scrape together to offer.

LOL at Venables. Everyone at OU has been dying for someone to hire him away, their fans hate him. That would be perfect, you have Malzahn and Kirby Smart sitting out there and you go and hire Venables.
