Pretty crappy considering he leaves out any positive from Muschamp's tenure at Texas. The coordinators ran the show at Texas and they've been pretty successful the past 5 years (sans this year).

Not sure if I like Applewhite though.

That's my column. :P

Applewhite isn't even officially the O Coordinator. Also, no mention of Jeremy Foley's track record with coaching hires.

I noticed it after I posted, but figured you'd want my genuine thoughts.

Who the **** is Chizik going to get to replace him??

Will Malzahn coach in the NC game?
If he takes Vandy to a couple bowl games and gets the program to respectability, I don't mind being a waystation to a better job. If the money figures being thrown around are correct, there aren't that many programs he could leave for that would pay better (he's likely to make more than the new coaches at Miami or Pitt, for instance).

He needs to spend the next 3 weeks recruiting for Vandy, not gameplanning for Auburn. I'm sure we've been in a holding pattern on the recruiting trail because of the coaching situation, but there's definitely time to bring in a decent class.

edit: I'd be fine if he focused on recruiting for Vandy then still showed up at the title game to coach, but I'm not sure that's what Auburn wants.

Supposedly, we've been training Troop and Lupe to be a sort of combo OC whenever he leaves.

First of all, as I said when Jon Gruden accepted the Miami job earlier in the thread, these reports are false as often as they are true. Not saying this one is, but just be happy if you even got a coach as good as Malzahn.

Secondly, why would you be pissed if one of his conditions was to coach the BCSCG? It's the pinnacle of his profession. It's pretty standard for an asst. to want to finish off that journey. It's not like he is going to turn Vandy around over Christmas holiday.

I thought I mentioned that they were 51st in scoring defense. Guess not.

My buddy who played for Florida (under Spurrier) is confused why they didn't offer the world to Petrino or Peterson, but he'd rather have Muschamp than Mullen.

If Malzahn wanted to leave Auburn this year he would've tried to go to either Miami or Minnesota, Vandy is career suicide for him.

Expectations are so low at Vandy, though. Win 6 games, go to some bowl games, maybe win 3 SEC games, and he's a hot commodity anywhere. And if he fails, he gets a ton more money than he'd get at Minnesota.

In a 12 month period has their ever been this many hires among first tier programs?

From the end of last season count;

ND
Southern Cal

FSU (all 3 FL schools, perhaps 4 if USF became good)
Miami
Florida

Pitt, (major as in they should be the top of a BCS conference)
Tennesee
Colorado (sorta)

Michigan* (not open but everyone thinks it is)

plus a probably normal amount of mid-tier BCS teams.

9 Headline changes in a year, that has to be a record.

Holgorsen reportedly not taking the Pitt job.

Some places reporting Kirby Smart to UF done deal.
