When the thread gets bumped I assume it's because of FSU or UofAZ.

i've heard a lot of chatter about Mario coming home to Miami, but (perhaps naive) me just doesn't see it.

Norvell got a vote of confidence from his AD (plus they “can’t afford” another buyout, hint hint Mr Boosters) on Friday, so…

Remaining opportunities to leave him on a tarmac somewhere out of state:
10/9 @ UNC
10/30 @ Clemson
11/20 @ Boston College

After UNC they have a bye and then a UMass game. Sounds like the frontrunner to me, although I think Clemson has the crappiest airport.

Think it would cripple their program even more if they fired Norvell. Just don’t see any upside. Gotta stick it out another year.

from what i understand Willie Taggart isn't up to much these days. he still holds the 'Hagerty Family Head Football Coach' position at FAU and based on the $18 million lottery ticket he hit in late 2019 he might be up for a freeroll challenge. FSU probably wouldn't need to pay him much to be the coach because of that windfall. from what i understand he has strong ties to recruiting in Florida and might be a good fit.

don't worry you silly husky. a loss to the Beavs this year isn't as bad as years past...but what should really sting is the Beavs current coach was the OC at UW for Coach Pete just a few years ago.
i know you know that, just wanted the rest of the folks to know that as well.

So, talks of Urban being fired. I say he has a new college job in 2-3 weeks time.

Also, rumblings of LSU’s AD ready to move on from Coach O. NCAA Football Coaching Carousel

Which just goes to show how insane college footbaw is. One of the best teams of all time and a NATTY in 2019, COVID year that shouldn't count for anything in 2020 and it's time to fire the coach for a shaky 3-2 start in 2021?

Plus, it's da Coach O.

Every day with coach O at the helm of LSU is like a day riding a unicorn through a field of cotton candy to a lake of cognac. For an Alabama fan. As long as he doesn’t have the best QB in history who any idiot could win with. They should have chunks of Bo Nix in their stool, and can’t run the ball at all despite having Alabama-Georgia level talent on the OL and at least SEC-replacement level RBs. Pathetic and it’s just fantastic!

Unfortunately for us he’s an excellent recruiter, so a new brainlive coach and they’d immediately be a nightmare. I say; ”Give him more time!”

Meanwhile, FSU earned their first victory of the season by crushing visiting Syracuse by 3 on a late figgie (also lost on YPP) and are +17.5 @ UNC, which I’ll take. Maybe Urbs could even start on Monday, basically 3 weeks before their next game.

I fail to see how FSU sending the message; “1-5 with a loss to Jackson State gets you fired period” would somehow tarnish the program in potential coaches’ minds. More like the opposite really. Any candidate should either laugh or scratch their head at that preposterous scenario; “Gee, I’m not sure I want to take on such lofty expectations at the ~15th best program in the country while being guaranteed ~$40M for the attempt.” I mean I’ll give him 3-6 last year as a new coach without spring; this year it’s back to the whole idea of winning and they’re getting worse.

LOL

But I'm completely onboard. ICC would need to hire a translator to be able to communicate with Orgeron as I doubt anybody in NE Mississippi speaks that language fluently.

sux because it means Pat Haden did something right. Ed Ogre was interim head coach as USC, and started winning some but Haden walled him out of consideration for permanence. It was quite funny in 2019.

Yeah I mean nobody at UW cares about Jonathon Smith.

Its not about one game- the entire wheels are coming off the program much more quickly than anyone could have anticipated- as you know.

Petersen left Jimmy with NFL talent and a lot of young talent and Jimmy is squandering it with possibly the worst offensive scheme anyone has ever seen and a defense that refuses to care about stopping the run.

Maybe you think hey, give a young coach a second chance with a new OC. Well, when you hire the ASSISTANT TO THE RUNNING BACKS COACH out of Jacksonville (who got run out of town at his last ncaa stop five years prior and doesn't even have a twitter account) that should be a reputation staking hire.

Of course at this point the recruiting has gone from bad to worse and I expect a lot of transfers out.

So yeah, its going well.

In Seattle we celebrate Saint Haden's day on December 2.

Unfortunately I don't think USC is going to take UW's failing coach off their hands this time.

perhaps your second statement has something to do with your first statement?

don't you remember Smith was the OC in 2016 when UW made the playoff (and was #8 in the country in PPG)? and the following year when UW was in the Fiesta (and #17 in the country in PPG)? and the year after he left when they dropped to #89?

No, we had two OCs in between?

Smith was fine. We had one great offense in four years- and that was the year that he had Ross and Pettis and for which Tedford was brought on as offensive analyst- maybe coincidence, maybe not. PPG is a terrible metric as you know- the 2017 offense was quite a drop off from 2016.

Regardless, it was Petersen's offense the entire time. And other than 2016, as mentioned, it was the elite defense carrying the team while the offense held them back. So nobody was very disappointed to see Smith (or the subsequent OCs) go...but the point was that if you hire a guy who has basically been run out of football and retired for the last five years then you better be willing to suffer the consequences when it doesn't work out.
