what did svp imply?
and why doesnt the AD have the final say in the decision, although ive been given the impression the AD didnt want leach.

what the hell is going on in college park?

Yeah, you guys are forgetting that Leach is currently suing his former employer, and potential employers don't want to get into that kind of mess.

Texas hired former KU co-OC Darrell Wyatt as WR Coach and co-recruiting coordinator today.

Do you Maryland fans realize this is basically a lateral move for Edsall as well. I mean its Maryland for god sake. Edsall has done nothing but good for Uconn. Building the program from scratch into a team that now can get shown a little bit of respect. Probably should give the guy a chance before you bash the hiring like you are!

its not a "lateral" move for edsall.
and the bashing isnt on him, its on the AD and the school for wimping out and not hiring the guy everyone wanted in leach.
all we can do is support edsall, but hes on a very short leash with most maryland fans.
firing fridge who just had a 9 win season for a guy who went 8-5 the last 3 years in the terrible big east just doesnt make sense to most.
hopefully we are all wrong and hes the bet coach of all time, but right now its just frustration over not getting the big name coach who we all thought could bring the program to the next level.

Some truth here. Maryland fans are forgetting they are maryland, not exactly a top tier football school. Edsall obviously seems to have some limitations but come on guys.

10 yrs ago they were playing in a conf with Umass and URI. They play in a part of the country where less then 5% give a **** about college football. Up until this year if the game wasnt on one of the ESPN's , it wasnt even on in the state. How can anyone expect big time players to ever go there. Yeah I'd say 8 - 5 is pretty good.

Hate to break it to you but Maryland is not what you seem to think they are. It may not be lateral but its only slightly better. Want to take a guess how many games Maryland has won vs " the terrible BE" in the past 7 years. If you guessed 1 out of 7 your correct. The ACC is maybe ( a big maybe) the 5th best conference in the country.

BTW UConn vs Maryland in home and home starting in 2012.

People bashing Edsall's recruiting,

What exactly are you basing this on? Is it common knowledge that he is limited as a recruiter? Because drawing decent recruits to UConn in the first place has to be rather difficult.

Did Malzahn even interview for the job? I was hearing Malzahn and Leach were the frontrunners, then Edsall came out of nowhere.

WTF yall dont get it. You don't fire Fridge to get someone like Edsall. Period. End of story. If you Fire Fridge, then you swing for the fences. You dont get another solid, low risk hire.

why?

Why has he wiffed on every 3 star + recruit that came out of the state of Conn the past 3 years. Why does Boston College get much better recruits?

statistics are cool when those games were pretty much all l's to WVU.

but anyway, charder nailed it.
fridge was a name that carried weight, no pun intended.
leach is a name that carries weight.
edsall....ehhh. hes now most known by local athletes as the coach noone wanted.
gonna be an uphill climb.
however, danny o'brien at qb should ease the pain quite a bit.
wish torrey was returning though.

If Vanderbilt had hired Edsall, I'd consider it a nice upgrade.
But firing the ACC coach of the year to hire him seems like a real stretch.

BTW: Any Maryland folks want to tell me if Franklin can coach?
(know he's a good recruiter, but remains to be seen if he can recruit the kind of players who meet Vandy academic standards)

Well, Im not really sure if he can coach, he was a shaky play caller. Players like him though, hes a good motivator and recruiter (surprisingly MD has really high standards for academic standards for recruits, so I don't think thats a huge deal...Though not as a high as Vandy im sure )

nom nom nom

Also, all of this arguing is kind of silly since I am pretty sure that everyone is in agreement that Edsall is a solid, potentially very good football coach, but he is so similar to Ralph, and Ralph just had an awesome year, that it's stupid to fire Ralph to hire Edsall. Edsall is great in a background, but the context makes it odd. Also, especially when they could've gotten Leach.

fwiw, selfishly, I am pretty stoaked. I was NOT looking forward to playing UM with Leach over the next few years, and now we get to play Edsall instead who has basically been annihilated by wv every year but this luckbox year, and then also UConn is gonna be worse too.

Its unbelievable how disasterous this coaching change has gone for Pitt. Wannstadt isn't gonna coach the bowl game, half the staff has already left for other jobs, new coach fired before he really started. Now they've gotta find a new coach late. At one point a they had a top 10 recruiting class lined up for next season, a friend at the program told me today that last week they had 8 guys left, and as of right now they have 3.

they should hire Rich Rod imo.

UConn is just...UConn. Bleh. The name carries no weight at all. Boston College is at least a name football program with a little bit of tradition. Up until 4 or 5 years ago, UConn was synonymous with basketball, and to some extent still is. It doesn't help that programs like BC, Florida St, Miami, Florida and especially Penn St. have poached basically all 3+ stars from the state of Conn over the last 3 years. When the few worthwhile prospects in the state get skimmed off the top by much more name-brand, established programs, it basically leaves UConn rags in their own backyard.
