We'll never know for sure I believe. Knowing what I know about UNLV and Sluka's situation that led him to wind up at UNLV, I tend to believe him more than UNLV.

It's also worth mentioning that a backup UNLV transfer RB also declared he was redshirting soon after Sluka did. But I believe his situation was that he was frustrated about promised playing time as opposed to $$$.

My biggest takeaway from this is that I expect a lot of NCAA rule changes in the offseason due to this. The biggest one is that NIL contracts can be signed before a student steps on campus as an enrolled student. AFAIK, this is illegal right now.

The local ESPN afternoon radio show (which is actually good at covering LV stuff) reported that there were some boosters that were pissed off when they heard about Sluka leaving and would have paid the $100k if requested. UNLV is off to their best start since 1984 and are in the running for a BCS playoff birth which is unprecedented for the program at this point. So they were more than happy to pony up $$$.

Perception is reality unfortunately. the bottom line is that this entire fiasco has not been a good look for the UNLV athletic program as a whole.

Felt an unexpected wave of pity seeing the Temple cheer squad chanting “block that kick” on the XP of Army’s 4th TD to go up 28-0.

The rushing totals per team last night are unreal.

Yah, in the preseason SEC poll I checked Texas plays #s

1
8
9
11
12
14
15
16

out of 16

not their fault and at least they added Michigan OOC, but kinda weird it worked out like that.

Probably an ideal schedule for an SEC team though. You'll get the SEC rub no matter what and have a good chance of escaping with <3 losses.

So it isn’t impossible that we get Army/Navy twice this season.

Good couple of games tonight

Washington seems to be flying completely under the radar for a team that went to the title game last year. They have a completely new team and a completely new coach, but Fisch is a good coach and the new team has a lot of talent!

I have them somewhere around 30th and lots of other teams in that zone of dark horse buzz. Their schedule is too rough though with Michigan, @ Iowa, @ Indiana, USC, @ Penn State, and @ Oregon. I see them kind of like Arkansas - a decent team that is drawing dead to playoff due to their schedule, but could definitely knock off a playoff team.

Rutgers has the easiest B1g schedule, somehow avoiding Ohio State, Penn State and Oregon, plus a fine OOC win against likely 6-6 or 7-5ish VT. If they win tonight, I have them as 13% to finish 10-2 or better

Va Tech is drawing dead to an at-large berth, but is still 0-0 in the ACC and does play both Miami and Clemson which at least gives them a shot. If they win tonight, they're basically a lock to make it to the ACCCG with 1 loss, which I think they can do about 11% of the time. If they lose tonight, their odds drop to like 1%

Miami can afford a loss, but it would be unwise to spend it here with losable games @ Louisville, @ Cal, @ GT, @ Cuse, v FSU still to play.

The BC line against Western Kentucky has dropped 5 points on the rumor that Castellanos(!) *might* be out? What in the hell is the world coming to?

Liberty / App State canceled and will not be rescheduled

I think App-State was the only top-100 team on their entire schedule. Makes it extremely likely that they go undefeated, but I can't possibly see how the committee would put 12-0 Liberty over a 2 or even 3 loss MWC or AAC (or even Sun Belt) champion.

There are multiple FCS teams that will play tougher schedules this year.

They said they'd like to add a game, but I don't see a single open date between now and the end of the season, and selection is Dec 8 so they can't play a game after that.

Maybe they can cancel their game with UMass on 11/16 and find a better opponent? But if they could've done that, I assume they would've done it already

There are actually a bunch of SEC teams playing their "classic third midseason cupcake" game that week

NMST @ Texas A&M
Mercer @ Bama
Murray State @ UK
UL Monroe @ Auburn

Say ATM beats Arkansas and Mizzou and loses to LSU and South Carolina.

They'd be 5-3 with 1 ranked win (Mizzou) and 3 losses

Their final games are v NMST, @ Auburn and vs Texas, and even if they win both of those, they aren't getting in to the playoffs at 9-3

Might as well replace NMST with Liberty and try to add a third ranked win and see if they can snag the last spot?

or Say Bama loses to UGA, USCe and LSU and beats Tenn, Vandy and Mizzou

They'd have 3 losses with 2 ranked wins, with Mercer, OU and Auburn on deck.

Definitely not making it at 9-3 with that slate, but maybe replacing Mercer with Liberty could make the difference?

Washington having their welcome to the Big Ten moment. Gonna take a couple of years for these Pac 12 teams to adapt to the physicality of this league.
