In 2023, all mike macintyre does is cover! (and lose)

also lol navy with their spirits being uplifted late. get ken niumatalolo on the phone stat.

Sam Hartman may have been the 2nd best pick-up of the off-season outside of Deion Sanders.

Been watching ND since 1988. I know it's just Navy but after watching that game Hartman is seriously drawing live for best QB during that time period. Although that's probably more an indictment of NDs recruitment/development of that position over the years than a straight up compliment of Hartford. Caveats: I don't really remember Toni Rice but I'd pick him #1 for winning the national title in 88. I'd probably pick Kevin McDougal #2 for crushing Michigan and leading ND to the national title in 93 but Hartman is not really comparable to those running QBs (I don't recognize FSUs 93 title since ND was the clear better team).

Cliffnotes: Hartman is really ****ing good. If I were an Ohio State fan I'd be pretty damn nervous. Ohio State has played ND 4 times in the modern era and basically dominated them every time. That's not happening this year.

I know, lol fact checking ILP, but that FSU 93 team was the 4th best team we've seen in our lifetimes.

You know who doesn't show up on that list at all? Michigan 97. Nebraska 97 OTOH, was a pretty damn good team. So I'm sure he doesn't recognize Michigan's 97 1/2 title.

I hereby declare the Rainbows a thoroughly sound investment in watching and rooting for (particularly if they set the qb’s o/u at 220 yards!). They’ve got holes, huge holes, but soooooooo much better than last year, legit dangerous and going for it. I’m talking 4th and 4 from midfield, should we go for the bomb? Yes! I’m talking 3-11 on 3rd down and 3-4 on 4th down with the one ToD being a shot to the endzone from the 13. Man, a 7 point loss giving up a td on a punt, being an inch oob on an onsides kick with 5:00 left, and -2 on turnovers including a pick in the endzone from the 2.

Granted their TO strategy was “early and often” and they should have been going for two. A little less bad luck and a little more analytics could make the Oregon game interesting (of course I don’t actually *know* anything about Oregon except Nixon, Nike, and fashion so take that for what it’s worth).

Yeah that spelling is cringe. Not sure how that happened. But I do have direct! evidence Tony Rice was awesome. He was a beast in Bill Walsh's College Football (one of the best video games of all time). Just run the option left or right and pitch to Ricky Waters when necessary. With Rice's speed it was almost impossible to stop.

That Michigan team is criminally underrated. Not even being biased. I think they had 30+ players that made an nfl roster including the 2nd best player in college football history, Charles Woodson (no one beats Barry Sanders).

Obviously Michigan never played Nebraska. FSU played ND and was beat convincingly. I saw the game. The final score is an illusion. They gave the national title to FSU over ND because there were some weak character people voting. I don't care where they rank that FSU team in the 90s as long as people recognize that game happened and rank them below ND 93. Orwelling history away in inherently disingenuous TV political arguments is acceptable but not in sports. We should never forget FSU & ND actually played the game.

We may be reading a bit too much into a victory over a bad Navy team. I expect more of the same next week against Tennessee state

Tony Rice could not pass all that well, which was well enough as his coach thought that was a trick play.

Florida / Utah should be good. Huge game for the RIP-12 playoff hopes.

Nebraska / Minnesota should be interesting, Matt Rhule's debut at Nebraska. See how far along that rebuild is, they have a sneaky amount of talent on paper

Coastal @ UCLA, Grayson Mccall against P5

South Alabama @ Tulane. Sun Belt favorite against AAC favorite (and Cotton Bowl champs!)

UNC @ USCe, UNC is only -2.5, ACC/SEC. USCe beat Tennessee and Clemson to end the year last year and UNC is the #3 ACC team, so big game for both.

WVU @ Penn State is a quasi rivalry game. Penn State is all sorts of a b1g/playoff/title dark horse

UTSA / Houston should be a low-key great game

Colorado @ TCU should be a spectacle no matter what happens in the actual game

But yeah, week 2 is way better:

Texas @ Bama

Oregon @ Texas Tech

ATM @ Miami

Ole Miss @ Tulane

Nebraska @ Colorado (will be bigger if either wins in week 1. And imagine the hype if both won)

Utah @ Baylor

ND @ NC State

Ok State @ ASU

Auburn @ Cal

UCLA @ SDSU

Arizona @ Mississippi State

Wisconsin @ Wazzu

UCF @ Boise

Cincy @ Pitt

SMU @ Oklahoma could be sneaky good (SMU did insane work in the portal, plays both OU and TCU, and the backdrop of all the realignment stuff)

App State @ UNC rematch from last year

Cyhawk

Troy @ KSU sneaky good too, Troy is sun belt co-favorite, KSU is an everything dark horse

Week 3 is also awful
