Defense will take a huge step back especially in the bigger matchups. Having 2 Edge players that an offense has to account for means that any throwing situation is way harder. We won't have that this year.
Offensively though, so much of the talent is back from last year. 3/5 offensive linemen from probably the best non-SEC Offensive line in the country, plus a SR Transfer at Center that was a national award finalist last year. Both the high floor and high ceiling QB return as well as basically every skill player except Haskins.
I just don't think they have the top end talent to compete with Alabama/Georgia, but I think there's still a good sized gap between them and everyone on their schedule until Ohio St.
This. Michigan has the most fully loaded offense I've seen since the Lloyd Carr days. And we have probably the easiest schedule since I've been watching (1988).
Who cares if the defense is gonna drop off. People are forgetting that we have two very good QBs who were both basically rookies last year. Given how valuable the QB position is, any significant improvement there--which should be expected--can more than make up for big losses on defense.
Anyone who thinks Michigan isn't gonna make another run this year isn't following the team. Michigan is better than last year with a super easy schedule. We're gonna be 11-0 heading into the Ohio State game. We might make the playoffs regardless of that outcome.
This should be the best Michigan team since 2006 but it goes without saying that doesn't mean much since Ohio St/Bama/Georgia are so far ahead of everyone else. It sux that college football is so broken like that. Hopefully NIL can make it where the power concentrates into 10 teams instead of 3.
