Also there’s plenty of money to go around.

A very ominous sign for the quickly approaching 2020 cfb season:

UConn becomes first FBS team to cancel football season due to coronavirus

https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...ue-coronavirus

The chance that cfb completes a full season this year just took a big hit imo.

I don't think it took that big of a hit, maybe from 5% to 4%. The big hit already happened over the last few months. I think it took the biggest recent hit with the Marlins news, showing that paid professional athletes that are on average a few years older than college kids can't keep it under control, then college football teams are screwed.

Is there no faith in good old fashioned CFB greed? Have you *seen* these people?

Uconn was going to be independent and has had like all of their games cancelled by the other conferences. Last year they literally sold half their tickets and less than half of those even bothered to show up at the games. Several FCS leagues have already cancelled their seasons as well—let’s wait and see when someone with actual money on the line calls it off.

There’s no way to do it safely but that’s been obvious for quite some time and hasn’t stopped the conference schools from rationalizing players as cannon fodder and marching forward with some kind of season that would satisfy their TV contractual obligations. This is still a free money situation as it’s not like they’ll be risking paying players for nothing or need a union to buy into their “plan”.

I got cancelling the season as a 3-1 dog (at least in advance) with actually finishing 10 games including 4 team playoff as about a 10-1 dog. Bowls is where I’d go 5% or lower.

I’d love the players to organize and get the season called off, but most of these kids still think they’re immortal.

So the pyramid crumbles if football doesn't happen?

If a 20 year old is already playing football, the relative risk of corona is tiny.

Half the players are obese though.

that's a good point. The covid virus is a fat shamer that disproportionally affects big people. We don't know if that includes the somewhat athletic football giants.

Harbaugh and Day apparently got into it on a conference call. Day reportedly told Harbaugh to "hope for the mercy rule because we are going to hang 100 on you." Hope thats real and not just a rumor.

Meh it's probably real but this is like the United States trash talking to Grenada. They have the best QB in the game. Last year, they were arguably the best team in the history of the game before Fields got injured.

Michigan has no qb this year, lost 10 players to the pros including 4 out of 5 starting OL--and we don't reload, we rebuild as we're not loaded with 4-5 star talent everywhere like Ohio State is every year.

Of course Ohio State is gonna blow us out this year unless Fields gets covid. Day's tough guy macho talk is as pathetic as his boyish rosy fat cheeks. This is equivalent to Harbaugh saying we're gonna score 100 on Rutgers. Big ****ing deal.

Rondale Moore opting out. One of the most electric players of all time and college football only got to see him for one year. Shame.

Definite shame, though if the whole season ends up canceled (which I think is going to happen), I wonder if that creates enough of a glut of guys declaring for the draft that he comes back.

I've read hes pretty solidly a first round guy so I'd imagine he's a pretty close lock to stay in the draft.

I don’t follow the draft, but are 5’9” receivers ever taken in the first round? Especially with 1 year of playing time...from 2 years ago?

I know college aged kids aren't really dying(again we don't know the long term effects), but what is the O/U on number of deaths of college football players before this gets shut down? I'm going 3, but 2 of those have to come from big schools. Cal unis aren't really doing in-person classes, but flying these guys around to different cities to huff and puff on each other. It's full on ******.

There was an Illinois U model that figured 3-5 player deaths over a 10 game schedule. I agree it’s idiotic to attempt a season; superspreader events are a huge source of outbreaks and most games will have crowds, they’re already putting them in weight rooms without masks and Clemson’s spread so quickly they hoped to have heard immunity, and you know there’s still going to be tailgaters traveling and family visits. At this point I’m thinking you might need a coach or two to die or some externality.

And what’s really bothering me is...it really seems like a great year for betting. So conflicted.

once upon a time we all shook our heads when we heard a player passed away from improper training oversight during preseason camps, or suffered a catastrophic injury during a game, or played with an undiagnosed heart condition. these were all situations that were not known and because of that hard to prevent.

i refuse to accept even one player dying from something that is completely known and completely preventable just for the sake of my entertainment.

shut the whole thing down.

college football is my favorite sport to watch but it will be abhorrent it if it's becomes the equivalent of gladiator fights in a roman colosseum.

That's more drama than reality. Cancelling the season does not create a covid immunity. College aged people are the worst at taking precautions. It's safer to keep them in an athletic bubble.

Your third sentence explains why your last sentence doesnt apply ...that, and college football won’t be quarantined like the NBA. You really think every college program in the country is going to successfully isolate all of their players?

The MAC just cancelled their season. RIP MACtion.

More dominoes falling. I hate to be a pessimist but still don’t see any college football happening this fall.
