I love watching them play. I think CJ Fredrick is secretly one of the better players in the league. Seems like even their bench players are all good. Somehow, Iowa is just loaded with talent. Kind of crazy how Fran has done that.

Based mostly on watching the UNC game, you need to have a lot of beefy reinforcements up front so you can be physical with Garza without fouling everyone out, and longer athletic guards that can bother Iowa's less athletic shooters.

Dunno who fits those qualifications exactly, but unless you get lucky and hit a day where the shooting goes cold dunno how else you win.
I think Gonzaga is so skilled and can run Garza to death.

Honestly the best type of team might be something like the Bruce Pearl Auburn F4 team where you defend the three, give up twos to Garza, and run like hell for layups on the other end.

No matter what happens on the fields and courts this month, the ACC wins December. HUGE hire for the conference. The B1G ADs wanted him but Kevin Warren got the gig (and Warren has struggled out of the gate).

ACC Selects James J. Phillips as Conference’s Next Commissioner

Quote:
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that James J. Phillips, Ph.D., the Combe Family Vice President for Athletics & Recreation at Northwestern University, will serve as the conference’s next commissioner. Phillips brings more than three decades of experience in Division I athletics, a track record of tremendous achievement, a vision for the future of intercollegiate athletics, and a passion for helping student-athletes achieve impact and success in competition, in the classroom and in their communities.

Today’s announcement follows a comprehensive nationwide search facilitated by the conference’s Board of Directors, with support from its athletic directors, senior women administrators, faculty athletic representatives and student-athletes, as well as Turnkey Search, one of sports and entertainment’s premier talent recruitment/executive search firms. Phillips succeeds John Swofford, head of the ACC since 1997, who earlier this year announced he would retire in June 2021 after spending nearly 25 years as ACC commissioner.

Rutgers does the 2 big thing well.

Myles Johnson
Cliff Omoruyi
Ron Harper JR
Jacob Young
Geo Baker

Top 25 defense with 3 shooters and 2 big time offensive rebounder. Think they can make some noise.

FWIW Harper, Jr.'s dad is one of the best players to come out of the MAC (Miami, Ohio).

Iowa has looked great so far, but I do think they have a couple of weaknesses atm:

1) They have trouble creating when Garza is not on the court, and will struggle anytime he's is in foul trouble. Of course any team is going to struggle without their best player, but no one else on the team can really create a shot on their own. A bad Iowa St team was able to hang around in the first half when Garza only played 7 min.

2) Their transition defense is awful and was the main reason UNC was able to comeback for a little while.

Couple other things:

- Weiskamp and Frederick should be shooting more. Currently averaging 3.3 and 4.0 3pa/game. Should be in the 5-6 range.
- Bohannon has been poor outside of the UNC game. He's such an awful defender that he need to hit at a decent clip.
- Conner McCaffrey is by far their best perimeter defender who gets minutes. If he can make teams guard him from 3, it would be really helpful.
- Toussaint doesn't mesh with the offense. Holds on to the ball for too long.

Before the season started, I would have said Illinois matches up well vs them as Kofi might be able to guard Garza 1v1 and nobody can stop Ayo. Kofi has been trash so far this season so don't feel as confident saying that now. B10 play is going to be tough, but they certainly look like a 1 seed atm. I hope they are able to play the game on Saturday, but I'm not sure how much stock you can put into it as Gonzaga hasn't played in 2 1/2 weeks.

UNC will now play UK (instead of tOSU) on Saturday, while tOSU gets UCLA.

Organizers said the change was to "more closely align COVID-19 testing protocols between the competing programs and their respective conferences." The schools come from the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12.
I guess this is code for we need to maximize ratings in this shitty year for sports?

Cunningham doesn’t look very impressive. Doesn’t seem very athletic or explosive. Because of that, he will struggle to create for himself or others in the NBA. Wouldn’t want my team taking him #1 in the draft

This is Kentucky’s chance to find their 3 ball. Chuckles should be happy.

I'm not expecting this until the Louisville game. 1-5 UK beating a ranked undefeated Louisville team on the road would be peak UK-UL under Cal.

Texas Tech desperately needs Moretti this year. McClung just doesn't shoot it well enough from the outside and teams are going to pack it in and dare them to shoot over the top, which they just can't do.

Haha. That would definitely be funny.

Kind of like Roy vs NC State. His all time record is 32-4 at UNC and 37-4. He hates those ****ers. They're our first ACC game on 12/22, so let's hope that continues.
