That’s sweet. I didnt expect a full West Virginia University breakdown, but I enjoyed it.
I hope they both come back! That team would have character

It's hard to win 5 in a row, but it's not that hard to win 2 in a row then just go win 3 in a row!

(this is what I tell myself in every shootout / HU tournament)

i neglected to think about hedging too, so you obv did lose a ton of potential value in this spot

edit to add: crazy to realize that the 3 winningest coaches in D1 history are current coaches in the ACC

Will ncaa tourney teams forfeit covid tests or is this just an acc thing?

NCAA statement

Seems like they're going to allow replacement teams in the first 48 hours after the bracket announcements Sunday. It doesn't specifically say that teams will be forced to forfeit after that time, but their statement of no reseeding and the bracket not changing seems to indicate that.

So, first four out might not be this year!

That is not what it looks like they said the first time in their own press release. They even bolded it!

Under the new five-year deal, Detroit-based Rocket Mortgage will be the presenting sponsor of the famed men's basketball team which will now be known throughout the Breslin Center as, "MSU Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage." The team is a perennial powerhouse, making eight Final Four appearances in the NCAA Tournament since head coach Tom Izzo took the helm in 1995.

Alabama’s young, projected 2022 lottery pick just limped off in a 30 point game

Ok so if I am understanding this correctly:

They are going to make the bracket on Sunday and designate the next four at large teams as alternates, 1 thru 4

If a team from a 1 bid league forfeits, the league will get to replace them (presumably with the runner up)

If a team from a multi bid league forfeits, the NCAA will slot the #1 alternate in there instead.

If this is right, then:
- The main concern you'd have is like a 16 seed has to forfeit and they get replaced with Ole Miss or something, which is obviously unfair to the 1 seed. That won't happen here, as almost all the high seeds are from 1 bid leagues, so they'd just get replaced with an even worse team from that league, which is beneficial for the team that they're facing

-It's a little funny that the last team out might have a better chance than the last team in. the last team in will have to play in the first four, while I think the #1 alternate just goes directly into the bracket. The at-large first four teams are usually an 11-12 seed, so if like a 7 seed forfeits or something, the #1 alternate slides in there and gets to skip the play-in game and also plays a 10 seed. If a 1 seed forfeits then the alternate just fills the 1 slot which is hilarious.

-The NCAA says that this will never hurt the opponent of the replacement team which is probably right. There's a corner case where like Drake gets a 12 or 13 seed then forfeits then gets replaced with Ole Miss or something.

-The biggest equity swing is obviously if a very high seed forfeits and gets replaced with an ~11 seed quality team, but there can also be a big swing if a very good AQ from a 1 bid league forfeits. Not really the case this year though, as Memphis/Drake type teams are roughly ~11 seed quality anyway

Does anyone know what the cutoff after which a positive test throws a team out?

I know they said the brackets will be locked after Sunday with the possible exception of replacements. But if <good team> gets a positive test Saturday, would they just not get seeded?

I assume UVa's and Kansas' problems are far enough out that they can still play by next week.

On the Duke front, I think that Coach K realized "Hey, even if we get in, we'll be a First Four team, and have to play Drake," and didn't want any part of that powerhouse. So, he made up a story about a positive test.

Spoiler:
C'mon, Drake's not even competitive most years, much less decent. Give me a little bit when they are having a decent season.

All the rules are phrased around whether or not a team is eligible, what will happen, and all you need to be eligible is 5 eligible players.

Not sure what the strictness around the protocols is, how long people have to sit out, etc.

All Seton Hall has done all game is try to bully their way to the rim. And all Georgetown has done is stonewall them.
They just allowed a couple big offensive rebounds. Tie game under 7 minutes
