That Clemson bet is great

Does anybody know what happened to them in the middle of the year? They played 10 games with a ~top 20 performance, then randomly played 5 games in a row where they looked like a ~150th ranked team, then back to like a ~top 20 or so team over the last 7 games.

No players injured, no covid, no reason why they were so terrible for that middle stretch

Stanford I thought was a super sharp bet at 15-1... they were missing 1-2 starters every single game through the first 70% of the season, then they got everybody back all at once, and I figured they'd improve by like 5 points and go on a tear and instead they've just continued to suck

Managed to hammer Cuse at 50-1 before tip today for a lot more than my NC state bet, so happy about that one

A Covid-initiated halt hampered the program immediately before the spell you outlined:

Interesting... they went 10 days without playing (played Jan 5th then again on Jan 16th) but none of their players missed the game on the 16th. Seems like too little time for ppl to have gotten COVID and recovered, so tracks more like there was an exposure followed by negative tests...

Maybe some of them had COVID with mild symptoms and they just said **** it and played and sucked or something. Or maybe they took the 10 day layoff period and partied it up, who knows

Took Cal ML tonight.

Betting 1st round of the Conference tournaments like I bet bowl games. Basically I'm looking for the teams (Xavier, Stanford) that were solidly in the NCAAT a month ago and now probably need to win the conference tourney to get in. Feel like those teams are just ready for the season to be over.

Perhaps, but I give him credit for not quitting on this team like he did to that team in the 90s

So, who are going to be the super duper seniors who take advantage of an extra year of eligibility?

First guy i thought of was Dolezaj for Syracuse.

Taz Sherman for WVU?
Jay Huff for UVA?

Kyle Young for OSU makes a lot of sense returning if he chooses. Would put OSU as a preseason top 5 team.

Gabe Osabuohien and Taz Sherman are WV's two seniors

Taz should come back for sure. He went from JUCO to playing 33% of mins last year to playing 58% of mins this year and improving in almost every metric

He's 6' 4" and not sure athletic so doubt he has an NBA future, but he's probably like a fringe european guy now but if he comes back and improves again, he could make some real money.I think he's young for his class too.

I don't see why Gabe wouldn't come back. He has NBA level defensive skills but plays on offense like a high school freshman. Truly the single worst scorer I've ever seen.

Problem for him is overseas has lots of defensive / hustle guys and always needs the Americans for scoring / offense, so if he's gonna have a career he needs to at least become replacement level on offense.

The guy plays 20 minutes a game and averages literally ONE POINT EIGHT POINTS

And you'd think somebody who plays 20 minutes a game and only attempts ONE POINT FOUR shots during that time would basically be shooting nothing other than wide open layups, but he somehow is only shooting 35%. (and 41% from the line)

I'd be surprised if there is a single player in the history of college basketball that shot a lower % on such a small number of attempts per game with the same sample size or larger

But on the flip side, he is literally #2 in Big-12 history in defensive BPM, right ahead of Marcus Smart, and 6th in career steal % and 9th in career defensive rating.

He'd be #2 in the country this year in DBPM but hasn't played quite enough minutes to qualify for the leaderboard

Hilariously, he's also somehow actually improved to be a net zero on offense because he can pass OK and goes and get offensive rebounds at a decent rate

I mean, he went SEVEN GAMES IN A ROW (128 minutes) earlier this season without scoring a SINGLE BASKET (0/10)

This year, he's played 470 minutes, is 13/37 from the field and 19/46 from the line for a total of 46 points.

He has more steals (37) and offensive rebounds (47) than buckets and freethrows COMBINED

Of all of the player-seasons in the sports-reference database (which goes back to 2010), there are only two player-seasons where somebody has had > 6.3 DBPM, > 460 minutes with less than 39% true shooting:

Gabe Osabuohien in 2019-20
Gabe Osabuohien in 2020-21
