Just have a bad feeling that free throw shooting is going to bite Michigan in the ass in some tournament game. Felt a lot better about that in January when Abdur-Rakhman was shooting 90% instead of the 75% he is now.

But I think it'd be foolish to say they aren't one of the favorites now. Beilein offense + top 10 AdjD + 3rd nationally in Offensive TO rate. Very very tough out come March. The only team they've faced with legit NBA Athletes has been hamstrung by lolIzzo, so that scares me a bit.

Lifetime WSU fan and was at the game today. This is probably one of the biggest critiques of GM with the fanbase. He doesn't call timeouts to stop runs or to set up end of game scenerios much. Cincy went on a 16-1 run in the 1H today that basically won them the game with no timeout from Marshall. Might also be that he hasn't been that successful when he has set up the end game situations in high leverage spots. (See NCAA Tournament: VCU 2012, Kentucky 2014, Kentucky 2017). For reference the last game winning shot for WSU at the buzzer (that I can remember) actually happened in the Turgeon era which is kind of weird for a team that has won roughly 80% of their games over the last 8-9 seasons.

I'm ok with Guy being on the 1st team if only because it would be odd to have the runaway champ without a 1st teamer (that's not the greatest reason in the world, though). Really, I'd put Hall on 1st team and Guy on 2nd team. Hall is extremely underrated. Jerome on 3rd is fine - he's been really good (hot taek: he might be better than Grayson Allen and WILL be better than him by the time he graduates).

Agreed that Hall getting a POY was weird. Same with Jack Salt getting a DPOY vote. I'm...amused...that Hunter stole a ROY from Bagley. I'm guessing someone opted against Bagley because he missed several games.

3 conference title games in last 4 years, 6 of last 11. Still haven't made the tourn in 20 years. At least we got blown out to a much better team who might well win a game or two as a 12 seed so not even mad. I'd put Loyola as a 10 or a 11 really but that'll never happen obviously.

Hard to really tell how good Loyola is when you have 1 win against a top-100 team all season

What's the record for consecutive 3 pointers in a row? This Killian Tillie fellow from Gonzaga has made his last 11 straight.

I think Jerome is the best player for UVA and one of the best in the ACC. He’s better than Guy at literally everything but coming off screens and quickly firing from 3. Guy has a quick release on his jumpshot and can take a wider variety of shots but beyond that Jerome >>> Guy.

Jerome and Guy should have swapped spots on the ACC list

Sorry KU, Michigan, UK, Tennessee, Shockers, Texas Tech, etc. According to ESPN's lead article, your team isn't cutting down the nets come April.

It will be one of these eight teams: Arizona, dook, Zags, Sparty, UNC, Purdue, 'Nova, and UVa.

The 343 teams that will not win the national championship

Solid take. I can see where you're coming from there. I believe before the season started, I said Jerome was like/would be like Joe Harris, but with more quicks/ball skills. So far, so good, but his shot creativity looks even better.

I'm a bit concerned about the injuries piling up for Virginia - we've seen in recent NCAA tourneys how an injury to a key guy has really sunk them. Kyle Guy has a bulging disk and now an MCL sprain. Wilkins has been battling a bad back (and a thumb, but he says that's ok) - without him, we're toast. Hunter has an iffy ankle and knee. Jerome hurt his thumb/finger, but I don't think there are lingering issues there.

I really wouldn't mind some of the guys resting in the ACC tourney. I know die-hard Virginia fans are all about the conference tournament (because for some reason the winner of it is considered the official ACC champ), but there are bigger fish to fry.

We'll see. It's been a wonderful season, more than I really ever imagined they could have in my 20+ years as a Wahoo.

Just randomly looking at Kenpom...

MICHIGAN has the #6 overall defense? Would never have guessed.

How did this happen? In 5 years at WV, Beilein was never top SIXTY. In the last 10 years at Michigan (holy ****, Beilein at WV was ten years ago?), The best he's had is 37th.

This team also looks like a bunch of underrecruited, unathletic guys that like to shoot... how are they so good at defense??

Michigans emergence on both sides of the ball all started when Zavier Simpson became the full time point guard

There are other things like Michigan being able to switch screens everywhere thus running teams off the 3 point line and limiting 3 point attempts.

But it all came together when Zavier Simpson started applying ball pressure and destroying opposing guards.

Carsen Edwards was just named 2nd team AA by Sporting News and 3rd team AA by CBS or something and Zavier Simpson wrecked him in the B1G championship. Hard to run offense when your guards cant even initiate it.

Beilein admitted he couldn’t coach an elite defense so he brought in an assistant that could - Billy Donlon last year and after he left Luke Yaklich this year.

The improvement is astounding and super obvious if you watch a lot of Michigan games - guys who were awful defenders are now at least decent. And they can do different things on defense. It’s fascinating to watch.

well with the BYU loss I will admit you guys are probably right and St.Mary's getting left out, it's just there's so many teams like 18-12 out there and Mary's metrics aren't bad at all (not that any of that matters, just ask that year wichita state was in the playin game despite top 10 kenpom). Okay RPI is bubbly so if that only matters they're in trouble.

If I'm putting in who I think the best available teams I could in the field, I'd have them in but this is a committee who doesn't give a crap about that.

Rhode Island might not be in also if they don't win the conf tourn as the only metric in their favor is RPI.

That's the thing though, why are 8-10 in some crap conference tourns as near locks included over these type of teams, oh noes they lost a conference game or two so they're out is kinda ridic. Those 8-10 ones aren't gonna go unbeaten in those leagues either.
