Even if you were to chock up Purdues 26 point win over Arizona as a fluke because Arizona was missing their 3rd best player and award MSU and extra tournament team win by beating ND with Colson, my point would still stand.

If Marquette is a tournament team, Purdue also beat them by 15 on the road so their resume is substantially better than MSUs.

MSU as a 3 seed right now makes sense to me.

Homer here, but 2011 Pitt was not poor. Went to every home game and watched every game. Most years they would've been a 2 or 3 seed, not even close to worst ever. Lost in Big East tournament to Champs UConn and lost to Butler runner ups in the tournament. 4th Kenpom

Kenpom has 2005 Washington as the worst 1 seed since 2002 ranked 14th. Seems reasonable. Xavier is currently 13th on kenpom.

Saw a lot of RPI talk today on Twitter after the release of the seeds. Is that still a thing?

If that were the real bracket, the toughest team in Xaviers bracket wouldve been KenPom #9. Cant imagine there ever being a bracket that didnt include at least one of the top 8 teams.

Xavier(13) Auburn (9) Clemson(15) Oklahoma (31)

Unfortunately yes. The committee has said that this year they're going to expand the computer rankings they take into consideration such as Kenpom, but LOLRPI is still going to be a factor. And because the committee is mostly made up of LOLOLDS, I assume they'll stick with the "trusted and true" RPI

So Arizona State could get a 1 seed?

The team sheets this year have group a team's schedule differently, but still RPI-based. There are now 4 quadrants, but only the top 2 seem to matter. The top Quadrant is your record against:

1-30 home
1-50 neutral
1-75 road

So therefore, the committee feels like a win against #75 on the road is equal to #50 neutral and #30 at home. Currently:

30 = Houston
50 = USC (west)
75 = Northeastern

What people don't like is the fact that with these arbitrary breakpoints, a win against Virginia at home is worth the same as a win at Northeastern, which doesn't exactly seem logical.

And yes, the other metrics are in the room, but how much they are being utilized is anyone's guess.

Heh, Virginia got the 1 spot in the AP poll. Don't know if I have ever seen a team lose, and rise to number 1

I think a lot of voters took the top 5 and threw them up in the air and wrote them down in order of which one landed first.

I was very surprised with Oklahoma being included in the top 16. I guess that's how strong the Big 12 is top to bottom right now. You can find decently legitimate arguments for all 12 to make the tournament because they are consistently beating each other up and down. Everyone has good wins because of it.

Maybe not Iowa State but realistically they're not that far away. To get there though would come at the expense of 1 or 2 others.

Probably didn't hurt that UVA was elected the #1 seed in the first set of tournament rankings despite losing.

People tend to forget that your last game is only 1 of 25 or so thus far in the season. 30+ for the whole year. Virginia has the #1 RPI, the best overall record in the country, and leads the (arguably) best conference by 2 games. They also have one of if not the best win in the country at Duke. Their losses are to a team that was ranked as high as #2 (WVa) and another rivalry game in OT to a tournament contender. I can't imagine any other team that can have a better argument to be #1 or the top 1-seed right now. Not Villanova. Certainly not Michigan State or Xavier or Purdue.

I don't think a narrow win @ Duke is in the running for best win in the country. But nevertheless, I can't imagine anyone being too upset with Virginia at #1.

WELL I'M HAPPY.

But seriously, I know it's not the end-all-be-all, but Virginia hasn't been #1 since 1982, so this is great. And for me, personally, it was a rough weekend - we had a major doggie health scare and she's 16.5 years old - so this made me feel good.

And doggie is ok now, as far as really old dogs go. She's staring at me right now and whimpering - I think she wants me to either clean the dishes or let her lick all the dirty plates.

some mild rumblings on the interwebz that Bagley (knee) might shut things down and not risk injury before the NBA Draft.

My team Clemson has gone beyond all expectations thus far. It feels good to be relevant in basketball, it is rare for us.

Clemson has been great. It's been extremely impressive how well they've done since Grantham went down.
