That freshman kid running like God for WVU and OK missing all the free throws were decisive.
I mean, I'm not about to get a big head about it because WV hasn't won anything in the entire history of ever, but I don't see how anyone could have watched that game tonight and come away with that conclusion.
OK went 19/28 from the line. If they shot their season average, they would've had 1.5 more points. Citing OK's free throw percentage as one of the two main reasons they lost is just bizarre. Like, if WV had shot our season % from the field, we would've won by 22 instead of 13.
Teddy Allen had a nice game with 20 points. In the last 4 games he's also put up 24, 22 and 15 so it's not exactly like that today was miraculous. He's good, and it took him half a season to figure out college ball, but it's not like he was banking in 25 footers. He was mostly just finishing plays at the rim off of either nice drives, shoddy defense or nice passes.
Basically, Jevon Carter straight up dominated Trae Young in very facet of the game for the entire time the two went against each other, forced him into a ton of horrifically awful shots, picked his pocket a bunch of times, abused him offensively and completely removed him from the offense. Trae was just completely unprepared for defense like that and got annihilated, and the only respite he got was when the refs called two absolute phantom calls on JC which forced him to the bench and let Trae get into his first semblance of any kind of rhythm by gifting him some FTs.
I wouldn't bet on it happening again the next time we play... if anything tonight is probably going to be a wake up call for him. He set college basketball on fire the last couple of months and has been super awesome to watch, and has been on a non stop love fest on every CBB outlet. Tonight, he went up against a senior who is the best defender in the country who wrecked him and probably humbled him a bit. Probably going to motivate him to come out even harder and improve even more, and make him even more dangerous in march.
Anyway, I'm still fully prepared for the roof to fall in and/or for us to lose to like Stephen F Austin in the first round or something, but so far this looks like the best WV team I've ever seen. The press is the best it's ever been, and we finally actually have some shot blocking to rely on in the half court. But most importantly, between, Carter, Allen and Bolden (and to a lesser extent, West) we actually have the one thing we haven't had in a long time which is a few dudes who can take the ball and go score when we need a bucket... and we also get Ahmad back eligible for our next game too.
I think this team could legit go pretty far in march if we get a good draw
