Their only close game is a 2 point win over #43 K State, neutral.

Their 4 wins against bad teams are all by 18+

How can ASU be #35 in Kenpom?

Ranked behind USC, who is 4-3 with a 16 point loss to ATM, a 17 point loss to SMU and a 2 point loss to Oklahoma and whose best win is by 4 in OT against #76 Vanderbilt.

Like, how does this all add up?

Arizona State has the second worst power conference defense in the nation(shout out ti Archie Miller and Indiana for having the worst).

Edit: appears they have moved up to 13 in Sagarin but still 23rd in BPI

In ASU's two big wins vs Xavier and Kansas

They went 13/27 from 3 vs Xavier while still giving up 116.2 points/100 possessions

14/28 from 3 vs Kansas while still giving up 106.3/100

Prob running hot and really around the 25th or so best team in the nation but everyone overreacted and ranked them 5th because human polls are awful.

Duke’s DRTG: 100.4
ASU’s: 100.8

Duke’s SOS: 97
ASU’s: 84

ASU’s getting 30fta/game, shooting 42.7% from three, and 58% from two. Offense is diverse, and regression ain’t gonna be too much of a *****.

ASU CLEARLY a top-10 team thus far. Lagging indicators gonna lag.

Ya I wasn't actually asking "how good is ASU really?" I was asking "how can Kenpom, given the way I think Kenpom works, have them ranked so low?" to which the answer is "It still weights preseason stuff" which makes sense

and obv that 154th ranked defense needs to be factored into one's thinking. typically, teams w/ these types of defenses aren't elite.

Well how about next time, instead of looking a gift horse in the mouth, you accept your blessing without comment?

I'm hoping to catch a Cuse game over break - I don't think they play Pitt at home during that time though. Bonnies and GTown look like good ones. Bonnies will be cheaper I bet so I'll probably end up at that one.

Cuse comes back from 13 down in the 2nd half to cover the spread in OT.

Does VT have a single defensive rebound? They just seem so uninterested in defense or boxing out

No turnovers and his team has missed several open shots he’s created against a top defense on the road.

He looks legit.

Leads the nation in usage at 35+% and has an ORtg of 129.7. He's been insane this year. Probably the clear favorite for National Player of the year at this point.

I dont think you can even slurp him enough to do him justice. He is just whipping one handed passes across the court with accuracy generating open looks from 3 for his teammates - killing the help defense as it starts to rotate over towards him. He's gotta be one of the most entertaining players I've watched in a while.

Trae's the GOAT man. Going to be really fun watching him shred defenses on his way to the final four this March.

UMass with back to back road wins against providence and georgia. Defenitely overachieving in McCall's first year. We'll see how long he stays here. I like him alot.
