Can we agree as a society to never give gonzaga credit for anything ever again?

Gonzaga is in big trouble moving forward. I see them falling off bigly without Timme now.

I heard someone say yesterday he’s got more more year if he wants it but will probably decline it.

Load up. I’m all-in at plus money. I knew I should have bet them at 10-1 a few days ago.

I believe he has one more year because of COVID.

Pretty sure Timmes already announced he's finished at Gonzaga even though he has one more year.

the best UNC team since i've been following the program was the '09 Hansbrough led Heels. like this year's UCONN team, UNC outscored their opponents on the way to the F4 by 90 pts. that four game run also included a blowout of the Zags (by 21 pts in the S16)

UNC outscored their two opponents in the F4 by a combined 31 pts. odds are the Huskies do better than that after watching last night's performance

So sick of Gonzaga, absolute frauds every single year.

I wouldn’t exactly say they’re frauds. But they also can’t quite get it done, either.

They’ve made at least the sweet 16 in 8 straight tourneys.

8, 16, runner up, 16, 8, runner up, 16, 8.

They were also on track for a 1 seed in 2020.

That 09 team was absolutely insane. Probably my second favorite season ever. I still can’t believe they started 0-2 in ACC play. But they found the gear. The 08 final four beat down still haunts me. But 09 probably doesn’t happen without the end to 08, just like 17 probably doesn’t happen without the end to 16.

05 is tops for me. The 05 team wasn’t as good, but that one was so damn sweet after the Doh years with Roy coming home. 05 was also the first championship I remember for me as a fan of any sport. So I’m sure that plays a part. I was 16 at the time.

I dunno man. For a team that’s been a 1 or 2 seed for like a decade that’s pretty ****ing fraudulent

I'm certainly no Zags apologist, but imo, fraudulent would be losing to double digit seeds as a high seed or never making the Final 4. 2/8 ship appearances in that timespan is pretty damn good.

2015: 1 Zags lose to 4 Duke 52-66. Duke wins the title.

2016: 11 Zags lose to 10 Cuse 60-63. But they also beat 6 Seton Hall and 3 Utah. Cuse makes FF and loses in the semis.

2017: 1 Zags lose to 1 UNC 65-71 for the title. They were unlucky to run into such a motivated team, but even within the game, I never felt comfortable until it was over. A few plays could have gone Gonzaga's way to change the outcome. If they win this title, no one is saying anything.

2018: 4 Zags lose to 9 FSU 60-75. FSU loses Elite 8.

2019: 1 Zags lose to 3 Texas Tech 69-75. Tech loses the title game.

2021: 1 Zags lose to 1 Baylor 70-86 for the title.

2022: 1 Zags lose to 4 Arkansas 68-74. Arkansas loses Elite 8.

2023: 1 Zags lose to 4 UConn 54-82. UConn currently the favorites to ship, which they were before the Elite 8. I don't think the games today change that unless Texas absolutely smashes Miami.

That doesn't really scream of fraud in a high variance one and done style tournament. Their worst seed differential loss was 2018. The worst seed they've lost to as a 1 seed is 4. Pretty unlucky to be up against a 1 seed both years making the finals.

Mark Few is a good coach and they have had some nice runs, but for not winning anything they sure get sucked off a lot.

UConn is the opposite of Gonzaga

Got my eyes peeled to this first round game, Uconn/Iona. I gotta avoid ONLY an Iona loss to UConn followed by Uconn exit in 2nd round.
Looks like Pitino's welcome back into the big time was preceded by a match up with one of the most monster 4-seeds in history. And Iona led them at half ... the team dusting everybody by 20+. Pitino was very capable of a run there, but he got in way too tough first round. And looked like Bama did self destruct a bit. Fun tourney. Only thing I've got left Miami to win region at 16:1.

It isn't like they duck everyone in the regular season and coast to high seeds. Yes, their conference outside of Saint Mary's is poor, but they try to play tough non-conference teams in the regular season. Some of the last five years non-conference opponents:

This year: Michigan State, Kentucky, Texas, Baylor, Alabama, Xavier, Purdue
2021-22: Duke, UCLA, Texas, Alabama
2020-21: Kansas, Virginia, West Virginia, Baylor
2019-20: North Carolina, Michigan, Oregon, Arizona
2018-19: Duke, North Carolina, Arizona, Tennessee

Only teams to make two+ title games in the last 10 tournaments: North Carolina, Villanova, Kansas, Gonzaga. They've got the same number of Final Fours as Duke and Michigan State over that stretch.

Doesn't seem bad to me for a small school in an area of the country that is not a draw at all for recruits, and in a state that doesn't turn out a lot of talent.

I do think their run is probably over now though. I doubt they have much NIL money available, and their tank seems kind of empty with Timme and probably Strawther leaving.

Creighton can't really get anything on the perimeter, probably should just pound it into Kalkbrenner non stop and hope they eventually have to double and kick out for 3s.
