I've got to agree with Redd. The schools that choose to put huge resources toward it, will generally be the competitive teams. The ones who choose not to or cannot will effective become minor league teams for the big guys. When one of those schools obtain a talented player, that player has to be swayed when huge bucks are waved in front of him. Most likely will bolt for $.

Can't blame the player; they should get it while they can. Few will become NBA players for the insane money.

Sure, there may the the occasional player who believes in original team loyalty, really likes the coach, whatever, but those will be relatively rare.

NIL is a great thing for athletes. Nijel Pack, for instance, is a 6'0 combo guard. Those guys don't usually make the NBA. But, now that he has 800k in the bank, he can go play in the G League when hes done with college since he has the money to not have to settle for Europe.

But, as I've said before, it probably will ruin college sports.

Yep, I agree on NIL. The athletes deserve a cut of the pie they're creating.

Was thinking today..if the Ivy League decided that D1 Men's Baskbetball was going to be their thing, imagine putting the $ of their endowments into play for NIL recruiting. Step aside, ACC/BigTenOrSo/etc...

I'm glad NIL exists. Players should get paid for their labor. For me, it's not so much that there will be a couple haves separating themselves from the have nots. I think that was starting to happen in CFB anyway. For me, it just feels like the rosters are way less organic.

Your team used to be guys you recruited and developed. If there was a transfer, the guy sat out a year, then played the rest of his college career at his new school, so it didn't feel cheap. I guess it's more a combo of relaxed transfer rules and NIL rather than just NIL. Especially with the grad transfers, it's just weird that a guy spends 4-5 years at one place, then comes in as a ringer for 1 year at a new place. And guys starting their career for a year at one place, then being plucked off the team by a contender.

Like with FSU, they already had a ton of roster turnover before last year, and it was cool seeing the crop of Freshmen develop and I was looking forward to seeing what they'd become by the time they left. Well, half of them are jumping ship, to be replaced by a couple guys from Ivy League schools and UCF that I've never heard of, but were supposedly all-conference last year. So I guess that's cool that some established players are coming in, but I would've rather seen the guys that chose FSU from the start and see how they evolved in the program.

I suppose it was like this for a lot of the 1-and-Done schools anyway, and now it's just happening everywhere. It's harder for me to get invested in these players when probably half of them will be jumping ship after the season. I'm glad the players are getting paid, but wish there was a better solution.

but the schools can't pay the players directly and the ivy league doesn't give athletic scholarships

"Either the NCAA is going to get its act together in enforcing this," he said, "or I'm going to be pushing for a smaller group to figure out how to create and enforce the NIL rules that we all agree on related to inducement and pay-for-play. The amount of an NIL payment should be commensurate with the work done as a backstop to make sure we're not using it related to inducement and pay-for-play."

I assume the pac12 commish will be taking a pay cut then.

P12 commish must not be familiar with the SCOTUS decision in the case NCAA v Alston

Timme and two other starters returning to Gonzaga and they got Malachi Smith as a transfer. I'm trying to imagine a scenario in which the Zags lose a game next year and I just can't see it happening.

Really? Terrible shooting team lost it's best shooter by volume and %.

I like Iowa, Indiana, Michigan State, and Purdue more than Indiana.

Iowa is going to trot out

Kris Murray
Patrick McCaffrey
Peyton Sandfort
Tony Perkins
Tyler Ullis younger brother

They're going to score on everyone. Think either them or Illinois in a toss up would be the preseason favorite in my opinion.

Huh? Illinois is loaded. They crushed the transfer market and have a top 10 freshman class incoming.

Terrence Shannon
Mathew Mayer
Top 40 freshman Sky Clark
RJ Melendez

Just from a pure talent standpoint, they are probably the best in the league. Just uncertainty how it will all come together.

Was he not going to get drafted? Houston is a commuter school, so it can't be some draw of continuing to live as king of the campus like some other guys get sucked into.

edit: second rounder according to BING! still stupid decision.
