Might take a couple months for this Michigan team to put it together. Not unexpected given the youth and turnover of the roster and they'll be tested again soon with @UNC is the challenge then San Diego St. at home before two winnable conference games, @Neb, Minn.

It's clear defense and offense need a lot of work in order to compete against the Top 25 at this point, all the confidence in the world for coach Howard tho

What happened that Smart took offense late in the game? Turned it on right at that point to watch Michigan play.

Schmidt called a timeout up 20+ to get his starters out of the game.

I was relatively impressed with UNC's effort against Purdue. I went in knowing Purdue was the superior team, and we hung with them for most of the game even grabbing a short lead midway through the second half.

I was incredibly disappointed yesterday. We were never in the game. Defense and rebounding emphasis were two things that Roy never got enough credit for. Whether his defensive style still fit this current era is another debate, but at least he tried to teach what he thought was best, and a player's playing time suffered severely if he didn't give the defensive effort Roy expected.

Our team yesterday looked like they hadn't worked on defense for one second in practice.

This 8 man rotation is going to get worn down quickly. We all got frustrated with Roy's 10-12 man deep rotations in the early part of the season, but there was a reason for that. I wish Styles and Dunn would get some more run. They are both 4 star freshman, so it's not like they are scrubs. McKoy hasn't been very good, but he should have gotten some run yesterday given we were playing a second game within 24 hours.

I am happy with Hubert and optimistic about his future, but he has a lot to learn from an X's and O's standpoint with regard to coaching it to the players, game rotations, game flow management, etc.. At least based on this small sample size so far.

Even the offense was stagnant and a lot of one on one play.

At least we are hitting 3s at a decent clip, which is a nice change from the past two seasons.

full disclosure: i watched about 25% of the Tenn game. i was busy watching the Bengals game. UNC competed well vs Purdue. that said, Purdue shot 64% in the second half (Tenn made 66% in the second half). when that happens, i'm not sure how many positives a team can really take away.

there are some very concerning stats from these two games. our two opponents totalled 49 assists on 72 made FGs. that is house on fire concerning. last season, UNC was 337th in Offense Steal% (i.e. your opponent has stolen the ball), which obv often leads to breakouts and fast break points. this year we are now 262nd in that stat. our Defense Steal% is an alarming 345th in kenpom. dumpster fire execution on both sides of the court.

above paragraph all excellent points. why aren't Styles and Dunn getting any burn?

i was on record saying i didn't want Hubert to be the new coach. i wanted someone with a proven track record. obv way too early to make any blanket statements about Hubert and his performance as a coach. that said, early results indicate this team may struggle to qualify for Madness.

The defensive stats are all very troubling. And there has been way too much one on one BS offensively.

One thing I like about Hubert so far has been his success on both the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.

But that’s only one small piece of the puzzle. He needs to find a way to translate that to the court. I’m willing to be patient, but patience can wear thin quickly with the fanbase and higher ups.

I was actually pretty down on the Hubert hire initially too, as I also preferred someone with successful head coaching experience. But Roy’s support along with what Hubert has said publicly and done with getting players so far has drawn me in. But I need to see a big improvement on the court by the end of the year, or I could start to come off of it.

-Jaden Ivey is pretty clearly the best guard in the nation and looking like a top 5 pick

Top 20 in offensive rebound %, 3 point %, 2 point %, and top 100 in FT%.

They are a huge favorite to be #1 in KenPom adjusted offense this year, the only question remains whether they field a good defense or continue being terrible defensively as they've been first 5 games.

Man, even if Duke isn't the best team right now (which they probably are), they will be by the end of the year. I don't care who, but I am going to need someone to beat Duke in the tourney.

Used to be Michigan.

Remember the November national title they won in 2019 finishing undefeated and beating top 10 UNC and Zaga b2b?

Then they lost 3 of their next 4, but they'll always have that November natty.

With no injuries, theyre a one seed

Can't find any high school FT shooting stats for Emoni Bates. I see 70% in limited attempts this year. If you are going to compare him to Durant as a player as announcer was doing, I think he needs to be a pure shooter, not just tall and thin.
