I see that Drake's got votes for the top 25. While I can't explain it, that pleases me. I figure the Valley to be down this year.

For national picks, Gonzaga, KU, Duke I guess?

Hope everyone has an enjoyable season, looking forward to dropping some money in the pool again in the spring.

Not to be a party pooper but I just can't see how any of these games matter the whole regular season. 68 or whatever get in. Nothing else matters really? Not like football where vital jockeying every week. I guess some rivalry games matter in hoops. Then March.

like tarheels said, nothing of significance will happen. strangely, it appears it took 48+ hrs for the news to break.

I saw that. Is he a walk-on or does he actually play?

I mean, welcome to every single sport? How many games in a full season and postseason actually really matter in every sport?

Like I said, the NCAA football season is monumental jockeying for playoff position EVERY game, and the college hoops is pretty much the opposite. So very little or no drama till March. About the only drama of a regular season is if someone is making an undefeated run ala UK a few years ago, Illinois, UNLV etc. College football rules for this reason, imo.

I will fully grant you, NCAAF has more meaningful regular season games than NCAAB.

But they are few and far between. NCAAB playoffs alone has more meaningful games than NCAAF regular season

NFL having the perfect balance I can't argue with

there might be a 30 for 30 or book written about K's tenure in Durham, and it won't view or read as many might expect.

problem is it's hard to get to the skeletons because dook is a private institution.

That's why I said March rules for hoops and the regular season meh ... meanwhile every game played in college football is huge by playoff hopefuls, because any loss at any time can jeopardize your chances or end them. That's not few and far between, that's every game.

No it isn't every game. And it is few and far between. I mean I guess if you want to get technical it is every game. I mean I guess New Mexico State versus Alabama had playoff implications. But of course Alabama beat New Mexico State.

Number of UK football games in my lifetime that legit had playoff implications

2018 Georgia
2021 Georgia

(and I am being generous, UK beating either of those teams is like an 11 seed beating a 1 seed in the elite 8)

But I still watch UK football because...thats what sports is about.

Well Kentucky beat LSU when they were #1 and went on to win the title, right, before playoff. Of course I mean every game for the contenders has big implications, not Vandy versus UConn.

Yeah, but when there are maybe 10 contenders, who cares?

College football is fixed from the start with preseason rankings. Oh…there is a committee. Who seems to follow along with those rankings.

Every game for those contenders matter, so cool for them. But everyone else is just playing for a sponsor driven bowl game.

The NFL is the only sports league that can lay claim to every single game mattering with solid parity. It’s not perfectly competitive, but every game matters, even for the contenders. Especially with the move to a single bye team.

And on any given week the worst team in the league can actually beat the best team in the league.

I don’t care to do the tracking, but how many undefeated college teams have existed since before and after the last and only undefeated NFL team?

you might only be referring to the U.S. tarheels. i'm not sure. but if we leave the States, the EPL says hi. a league that really gets it right with 15% of the teams walking the plank at the end of each season.

Ya, I was only referring to American sports since that's all I watch.

The EPL relegation aspect definitely adds another element.

Right so every game counts for those competing for the playoff ... and also then for fans concerned only with who wins the championship. That's all I do ... track who's going to win it. I thought that's what everyone did.

So instead of every game matters presuming everyone is talking about championship competing teams, I'll say every week in football has a bunch of games vital to the countdown. And that's drama. Hoops has about half a tick above zero percent of these games until March. Meh on hoops reg season.

K only cares about his win totals and other stats.

Those true road game schedules are one thing I take pride in as a UNC fan. Plus, it’s simply good for the team. Those games are a valuable experience.

I also think it’s cool how UNC tries to schedule games near various hometowns of the players on the team.

Is K really getting that bad? It seems so many if not all of the coaches setting the wins record, by the end were simply clinging pitifully to their status and record, almost addled in their self-aggrandizing crap. I can remember Rupp, Bryant, Knight, Paterno, even Bowden on this. It gets kind of sad.
