This thread needs more Russ Slander! The Lakers are still live to go 0-82!

I also had some thoughts of rostering Lonzo tonight but I didn't. lol McMuffin

Russ being terrible early was expected. Just depends if he can turn it around mid-season like the last two seasons.

At some point Lakers coach will come to his senses and bench Russ and melo and DeAndre and Dwight and whatever other chaff I am forgetting and they will win a few games before the cancerous locker room kerfuffle boils over.

I say Lakers should make the move LeBron to power forward, Karl Malone like, RWB to point guard with emphasis on setting it up/penetration/distribution, AD into deep post instead of his jump shooting. They could become a super passing team with Russ and Bron both dishing. Then the spot up 3 shooters. That Monk is a streak shooter extraordinaire. He had zero conscience in his college days. They probably won't do that but I think they'll make it work.

Not sure what to think about Walton in the top 75. I'm so partial to the guy, but it's hard to justify. In order to have him up there you have to be giving so much of a subjectivity factor. It's really just not there otherwise. Trying to think of other actual GOAT candidates in any sport stricken down so badly so early. Bo Jackson comes to mind ... not coming up anyone else.

I'm partial to Walton because when he came on the scene in the aftermath of the Alcindor era, the unparalleled super freak GOAT, and, impossibly, was billed to be better and then damn near was. It was unreal that such a thing could happen. Was gradually transitioning toward awesome in the League but then stricken. But it didn't come to fruition. I don't think he should be in considering who is out. He's GOAT college material, not NBA.

Waltton is the all time overrated player.

Centers left off cleay better than Walton include dikembe, Yao Ming, Pau Gasol, Artis Gilmore.

(Dantley obviously the best omitted player. And Manu. They ignored non US players badly.)

Walton's popularity was very much a racial thing too.

Walton seems like the last marker for college basketball being 'important' - after that it's hard to see non-partizan's really caring. It feels like the very last significant moment in college basketball was Webber calling time-out when there were none left.

Anybody who saw the 1977 playoffs when Walton and the Blazers swept the Kareem-in-his-prime Lakers and then beat the Sixers four straight after going down 0-2 (and with BW grabbing 24 rebounds in Game 5 to break home court advantage) in the finals knows how good he was when healthy.

Disqualify him for the brevity of his excellence all you want but to say when healthy he was overrated is lol.

And double lol the racism blast. They said the same thing about Larry Bird till the greats he was schooling said ‘idiot, please’.

Grant Hill was done being elite at 27 and then similarly segued into a bench, vet role after dealing with the ankle for multiple seasons.

DRose was the last top-tier guy who was waylaid close to that degree.

Oden was never going to be what he was talked about, but he never even got started.

Yeah those are great ones. I thought of Sayers first off, but without looking him up I was pretty sure he had several 1000 yard seasons after the injury so wasn't as waylaid as Walton. I saw that injury live, by the way. But in fact he only had one more decent season and done. And it really showed up in his kick returns, where he went from GOAT to not so great.

I love Rose and Hill as examples of this. Walton, Bo, Grant, Rose, Sayers ... all A+ candidates.

I thought of Koufax early on but with a 5 year GOAT span, you didn't really miss your career, or your peak. And with Walton I agree it is only the brevity that got him. He hit a peak very briefly that was pretty sick. He was something like a Russell/Rodman combo point center. Sick passer on top of everything else.

I hated the way McHale and Bird a little mocked Walton's limitations age 35 with 19 surgeries behind him. He had knees and back on top of the feet.

I want to argue Jokic but meh he’s pretty much a lock down the road. I do think we underrate how amazing he’s been in his career, has all the hardware too minus a ring.
