Has to hurt raptors fans when they ran a super tight rotation too. Didn't **** around with Malachi "Best Rookie, but won't win ROTY because he is behind Lowry" Flynn. All the marbles on the table, and they choke it away.

On the plus side Nurse seems to be coming around that Boucher is actually their best player so that's reason to be positive

Probably just a personal matter I know they were talking about what happened in DC last week as his impetus idk if I buy it going under the radar and not sending a message isn’t really how hed go about that. Other idea I can buy is he has covid qnd would rather keep it private

Either way not worried at all about it. Whether he can stay on the court all year not get hurt sure worry about that this though not really a story. I’m also not gonna blame anybody for sitting out if they don’t feel comfortable with what a mess the covid situation is

not one of his best assists if it results in a fade-away jumper

Gordon still hit a tough shot. But it was more so the accuracy on the full court pass, and they way it landed into Gordon’s hands allowed him to go right into the shooting motion.

He put it in the only spot where Gordon could still be successful with 3 defenders chasing him down.

Ignoring the fact he’s voluntarily sitting out and partying, that video violated NBA COVID protocols so he’s probably going to have to go into quarantine.

A 10 foot shot for a shooting guard isn't a tough shot. It's got to be roughly equivalent in value to an open 3. I'd expect Gordon to make that shot ~70% of the time.

So you mean not the value of an open 3?

What's the make rate on an open 3? 45%? That's roughly similar to 70% from 2.

I just don't think that shot Gordon took is a "tough shot" by NBA shooting guard standards. There's a big difference between awful 18-20 foot 2's and a 10 foot shot.

I think that for an average 3pt shooter we're talking around 40% tops thus 1.2PPP

If i remember correctly, Curry is leader all time in wide open 3 % and he was shooting "only" 50% from there thus a 75% 2

So at ~70% from 2 that's 1.4PPP Maybe Gordon isn't 70% from that range but I'd be shocked if he's lower than 60% from 10 feet away when he's not being closely contested.

Regardless, the choice wasn't this shot or an open 3. The choice was this shot or pulling back and running a normal offensive possession and I really doubt the expected value of a normal offensive possession is close to what Gordon had by taking this shot. So I think this was a good shot, not a tough shot.

Was I misunderstanding you and you're saying all along this shot is better than an open 3?

Maybe tough shot wasn't the right phrase, but I think businessdude was essentially making the point a nice full court pass didn't exactly turn into a layup. But he hit it in rhythm. And tough shot doesn't necessarily = bad shot anyways. I certainly didn't think it was a bad shot.

I'd say it's probably closer to 50% than 70% in game, but regardless, it's a shot that Gordon can hit a good percentage of the time especially when the pass falls into his hands like that with that spacing.

Looking at the video again Gordon catches the ball with his foot right at the edge of the lane and then does a fall away jumper from there so he was much closer than 10 feet. Gordon has to be 75-80% from there when he doesn't have a guy right in his face.

Which was the point of me posting the video in the first place. Gordon hit the shot, but there aren't a ton of players who can make that pass. He did it practically from baseline to baseline with one arm standing still. Go Melo!

Other upside to that shot is the d is already back on the other end.

It's more the willingness than the ability. (Illustrates his plus length more than anything as it looked easy.)

JWill stopped being White Chocolate (ftmp) once Hubie wasn't down for it in Memphis.

Another benefit to hit-ahead shots like that, and this is unrelated to the specific play, is that it forces the other team to react and expand extra energy on that play.

The opposing defense has to run back on D to stop transition while the other offensive players can conserve energy by jogging back up the court.

I got that take from the most recent Locked on Nuggets podcast--Jokic does it a lot.
