If you think Elfrid Payton's "experience" offers anything positive to RJ Barrett you're not paying attention. Which is fine, the Knicks stink. But Payton is the single most harmful player in the NBA. He's so bad I created a
space where I could Zach Lowe rant (using gifs) about how horrible he is. Read & absorb that. It is impossible that Barrett is better off with Payton in the lineup over Quickley.
Now if you want to argue that it's better for Quickley to get his feet wet in the NBA 1) facing more bench units and 2) getting to handle the ball more by leading the Knick bench unit, I will at least hear that. But Barrett is pretty much in the worst possible environment to grow, and Quickley's shooting and the space it would create alone would supersede any other positives the current starting lineup brings.
