LOL no. The ball is clearly in the cylinder, nothing about the ball being "live" in the rules.

Nothing about the ball not being live either. The ball is literally not in play until someone touches it, so it doesn’t matter that it’s above the rim when Ayton catches it. You get that, right? Ayton just happened to gain possession while the ball was above the rim. It’s not ball above rim first. It’s Ayton possession and then dunking it first.

They also found something with Zubac instead of the small lineup but CP will render that useless as well.

WTF are you talking about? Read the rule. Does it say the ball must be "live"?

About a third of the ball was in the cylinder

if a guy for some reason passed the ball to his teammate, and the pass went over his own basket and a player on the other team intercepted the ball as it passed over the basket and dunked it in, would that be goaltending?

do you honestly think all the players and former players and former coaches and commentators are wrong and you're right? seriously? I would understand if you were confused and brought it up for discussion like "I don't see this exception in the rule book", but the attitude of "all these guys are idiots, not me, I can use Google", is incredible

if a guy mistakenly shoots at his own basket (it happens!) and a defender blocks it on its way down and/or after it's hit the backboard, is that goaltending?

I'm not trolling, these are actual questions

Looks like Tyson Chandler had a very similar play for the Suns 3.5 years ago.

Jay Triano said after the game, “ I told the one official, ‘You know that you can’t goaltend that,’ ” said Triano, who won his 100th game as an NBA coach. “He was like, ‘I know, I know.’ I think they were probably looking to see if Tyson touched the ball because it’s a violation if it goes straight in and he doesn’t get a piece of it.”

According to the rule, if the ball is in the cylinder yes.

Read the rule bro. It does not have to be "live". You get that, right?

But is the distinction a SHOT ATTEMPT, in which case neither of these or shot attempts, or is it LIVE BALL in which case the out of bounds play is not goal tending but these would be?

Bc I agree with Captain Google, the NBA rules posted on their website don't make any mention of a live ball anywhere

Is there a different rule somewhere that supersedes this one and/or is the official rule book more thorough?

That was their chance. I had confidence they could figure it out there last two series. Suns D is way better and Paul is coming back. Don’t see it happening again.
Same way I felt after game 2 last round. Suns too good with a depleted squad. They are having a magical, Dallas 2011-like season rn.

I'm fairly certain I've seen alley-oops called goaltending on occasion when the pass was too good so I'm guessing live ball
