I think the Schroder situation is really funny because we love the drama of thinking that a nba player "lost" 80millions or whatever

But then when you think about the fact he's already set for life and that he's just going to get another contract next season under a larger cap, it gets a lot less funny

Very reasonable chance that he has an OK season like the last few ones (decent scorer regular season, poor playoff) and still easily gets 15M/year. Then you'll have the compare the 4/84 to the 5/85 or whatever

But with a more appealing personality. And I don't like him at all.

I wasn't suggesting that Dennis Schroder would be rattling a tin cup on the street because of this move. But even rich people get upset when they make a financial decision this bad.

He obviously is betting on himself by signing a one-year deal. If he has an OK season, I'm sure he will get more than the $5.9 million the Celtics are paying him. But I'll be surprised if he gets close to the $21 million the Lakers were offering him. He is unlikely to play more than 20 minutes a game if Smart stays healthy.

Assuming their roster doesn’t change much from now till the season opener, Schroeder will be their starter. He’s gonna get more than 20 min a game.

Schroeder
Smart
JB
JT
Williams or Horford

Yeah, he obviously didn't 'lose' all that money because he didn't sign a 4 year contract for $6M, he has 3 more years to close that gap.

I'll never have a shot at someone backing themselves in.

Sometimes it doesn't work out.

Even if he has a family to feed.

It depends. I could easily see the Celtics going with a big lineup that plays Horford at the 4.

Or the starting backcourt could be Smart and Jason Richardson.

And no matter what the starting lineup is, Schroder isn't going to play 35 minutes a game.

Just linking vini's 2021 3-year NBA dynasty draft sign-up thread, in case anyone hasn't seen it.

Jalen Johnson looks legit

Strus too - maybe Miami shouldn't have given so much $ to Duncan

no way. that DRob contract will be great for salary matching purposes (and at least according to Hollinger's model was one of the best of the summer)

Maybe Schroeder didn’t want to sign the Lakers deal because he felt the Lakers would just be dealing him mid-season and he’d rather dictate where he goes directly for similar-ish money.

Lol mediocre nba players trying to dictate terms. Loser might be out of the league in 2 years.
