In 27 min, 17-20 FG, 10-11 3P, 0-0 FT, 85% FG, 91% 3P%, 110% TS, 110% EFG%. Just unreal.

Tried to watch a few games recently to see if NBA had gotten more watchable lately and wow it was brutal. Probably all-time low watchability. Regular season is completely meaningless and the games themselves are just kind of a joke.

The sport is broken if they dont increase the size of the court and move the 3pt line back. The players have simply outgrown the sport. They are too gifted and skilled and it hasnt translated to compelling entertainment.

There are also way too many free throws. It is AIDS. That would also be improved by moving back 3pt line. With fewer potent 3pt spacing bots standing around teams could more adequately defend the inside leading to less fouls.

There isn't a single season pre-2010 with less free throws than there is today and back then the spacing was much lesser

I'm a Rudy fan and was rooting for the Jazz, I only hate-watch Mitchell now that their team is meh.

Some terrible takes.

NBA is as popular (and being watched as much) as ever.

Free throw rate is close to an all time low.

I don't see how this regular season is any meaningless than any other season. I'd make the argument that this season is actually pretty high on the stakes compared to a normal regular season.

You don't think there is a huge difference between the 1st to 3rd seed and the 4th seed in the East? And one really good team out East is going to be the 5th seed (and have a nightmare run). It's highly possible that those seedings will go down to the wire and it will only be a handful of games between the 1st and 5th seed.

You don't think there is a huge difference between the 3rd and 4th seed in the West (don't have to face the Warriors until the WCF)?

This is a super regular season to be watching.

Guess I phrased it wrong. It's not the raw amount of ft attempts it's the % of drives that are resulting in fts which is up quite a bit and the reason its visually unappealing.

It's popularity is up because scoring and pace are up, and that wouldn't have to be sacrificed.

It's basically a joke that they are playing on the same sized court as goofy white guys playing in short shorts and converses.

Free Throw rate is at an all-time low because of how many more 3's are being attempted, which is indicative that the game is broken because if it werent that wouldnt be a sustainable way to play.

3's are now way too easy for how sick these players are. It has been moved back multiple times and for good reason and there is no reason not to keep doing it.

LeBron's missed 15 (?) games so far. Not sure how many more he's going to miss, but (as well as he played) I'm not sure he should be in the All Star Game.

He obviously will make it because NBA will NBA.

Nets are the 6th seed in the East, like wtf. Does the Suns make the Eastern conference playoffs?

I think LeBron does more in 1 game than other stars do in 2 games so it evens out

I'm too lazy to do the research. How much are they up?

I don't think drives have been recorded for very long.

But if you look at 2s shot per game I don't think it's changed a lot.

Just picking a random season.

In 1999 there were an average of 25.8 free throw attempts per team per game. There were 65 two pointers per game taken.
This season there are 23.3 free throws attempted. On 67.5 two pointers per game.

<troll>If you take out all of Harden's free throw attempts from 3 point shots, it probably brings the average from this season down to below 20 as well.</troll>

Ok. But try watching a game which doesn't feature the Knicks.

So your saying teams in the 90s were ~3% better at preventing +1s?

Nets are kind of good. Beat the Celtics and Rockets in the last week. DeAngelo Russell developing nicely. Jarrett Allen and the fro/headband look is out there dunking stuff. Fun young team despite having no draft picks forever. Great GMing for that recovery.

Cosign this. I haven't watch that much Nyets, but they aren't the usual ballast-water Nyets and the GMing is probably to be credited. Also, lol Lakers re DeAngelo.
