Watching Mitchell, it makes sense that he dominated summer league and preseason because he's super quick and has a lot of confidence in his ability to drive and finish. But opening night, against one of the worst interior defenses in the league, he showed that his game isn't refined enough to be a contributor right away. He's already a nice defender, though. He didn't record a steal but had maybe half a dozen deflections. Like him long-term.
This is precisely my take on Mitchell. I don't think he was much different than say, Malik Beasley in summer league, but the difference since is that more has been asked of Donovan when he's pretty clearly not ready for the offensive load he's trying to handle.. Love his defense though.

It'd be really cool if Burks could stay healthy & contribute this season.

lol suns also
If I hadn't been spoiled it would have been surreal. They were up 10 and comfortably in control at the end of the third when Mitchell took two drives and got blocked, but both plays ended up with extremely flukey outcomes (foul on a jump shot at the end of a clock and a end-of-quarter double-clutch 3 by JJ). Burks then makes a sweet move for a dunk and Plumlee gets a screening foul, Nugs screw up on D and JJ gets a dunk, Jokic misses a bunny, Burks comes down and hits a pull-up 3, Jokic gets ripped by JJ in the post, another AB 3, and then it was all downhill.

I want to be that guy who says their team always struggles when teams go on runs or gives up big leads, but I think that's the nature of basketball, obviously the better teams will be better at executing in such stretches, but we've seen it happen to the elites as well..

Opening night is the absolute worst game to draw any conclusions from--one team is going to be playing their opener and everyone is nervous/excited, and you've got crowds who are going to be more pumped than usual.

edit: I've only ever seen him play vs the Raptors and he has always sat out those 2 games every year because he is scared of Jonas, except once last year he played and he showed why he had always been scared of JV.
nah brow was really sick that year-- it looked like he had made the jump

edit: alvin gentry might be the problem

Re: NBA Season Thread 2017-18

I think AD has probably not as good as his raw numbers, but I agree with Heels that it's more of a Gentry or perhaps Demps thing right now than anything else. Give Brad/Kerr/Popp, hell someone like Fizdale a player like AD and I think he'd be a top 5ish player.

Boogie otoh, I'm not sure how he'd be with a great coach..

Re: Phoenix

Before the tipoff I was like "Okay okay, Bledsoe Booker Warren Chriss Tyson that's kind of neat", and then they basically get doubled at home by the Blazers

That Phoenix clip is awesome. I was expecting it to be lolworthy but it's actually kind of cool.

Wade Baldwin sure didn't last long in MEM. I wonder if that guy has any chance of becoming a decent role player in the L.

Re: NBA Season Thread 2017-18

The few ovations he received occurred after he made his only free throw out of five total attempts.

Contrast the crowd’s frustration with their adulation for former Grizzlies wing Tony Allen, who played 11 minutes off the bench for the Pelicans, and things are heading south for Parsons in Memphis.

“It is what it is, man. I’ll just go into every game with the mentality that it’s a road game, if that’s how it’s going to be,” Parsons added in his postgame interview with reporters.

“They can boo me, they can sarcastically cheer me, they can do whatever they want. … It’s tasteless, man, it makes no sense,” Parsons said afterwards

“The fans got to give him a break, man,” added Conley. “He’s working. I hate to see the boos so early on, that affects him"

It’s not the first or second time an entire fanbase has grown hostile towards him. Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and their respective franchises parted with Parsons on bad terms.

LOL Parsons. Feeling NBA mean today.
