Is CJ a great value contract? Isn't he on a max?
12-19-2016 , 02:09 AM
I'm very biased but Duncan's jersey retirement ceremony was the best I've ever seen, every speech was on point
12-19-2016 , 02:26 AM
Yeah, CJ signed a 4/106m max this summer.

Yeah but signed when any decent young player to a max was good, it scales pretty well.. its any extensions / new ones where a team has some real risk

Also signed when there was a lot more cba uncertainty

blake to miss 3-6 weeks for (minor) knee surgery. clips were good w/o him last year and their schedule for the next month looks fairly soft so they should be fine

More GOATBERT facts

Quote:
Miami’s Hassan Whiteside, Atlanta’s Dwight Howard, Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns, Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins and Memphis' Gasol have averaged 11.2 points on 30.1 percent shooting in their matchups against Utah over the last month. Gobert’s numbers in those five games, four of which Utah won: averages of 14 points, 13.2 rebounds and 4.0 blocks, hitting 77.4 percent of his field goal attempts
That was his defensive weakness coming into this season, he wasn't great at defending Elite bigs, now he just poops on them like he's playing in the NCAA

It was perfect (minus the god awful music during the tribute video) It was really strange seeing Tim up there talking for almost 5 minutes, I was not expecting that but Im glad he did, he was great as was everyone else. His Wake Forest coach being there and talking was great. Best part was there was basically 0 basketball talk. Just such a unique player, there will never be another like him. The GOAT all things considered imo and its not close, dont care what anyone says.
12-19-2016 , 10:40 AM
Is it standard for a player to have his jersey retirement ceremony only a few months after his retirement? I remember shaq and iverson having their a couple years ago only despite not being in the league for way longer than that
12-19-2016 , 12:51 PM
Well he's that much of a goat duh
12-19-2016 , 01:01 PM
Wonder if Clippers management with Griffin will follow the Sixers strategy of throwing Nerlens under the bus for having knee surgery then giving him timeout when he expresses frustration through the media.
12-19-2016 , 01:03 PM
Gonna be hilarious when a snap max player gets traded for negative assets.

Best center in the NBA imo. I think his offensive improvements are what has allowed him to eclipse the DMCs of the league.

TRG >Gobert. He's been a complete monster this year and pretty much saved the season for the Grizz. Made a ton of clutch shots too and is somehow 41% from 3 on 3.7 att/g after never shooting 3s before. Rudy did just own him but TRGs worth to the Grizz has been unreal.
12-19-2016 , 01:33 PM
I feel like TRG's improvements have been the benefit of a bit of positive variance, although he's been great regardless. Either way I wouldn't be upset saying either of the two are BCITL, DMC is lol at this point though.

Gasol's probably been a bit better so far, but Gobert has been an absolute monster defensively. There's plenty of teams that Gobert would be more valuable. Agree that his offense is due to regress to some degree.

Speaking of people who have been awesome, the Pistons have struggled since Reggie returned, but KCP has been a beast this year. He ranks 2nd in RPM among SGs (behind only Harden) and he's been a huge positive for the Pistons on both ends of the floor. If anyone's interested, I wrote a good ~1800 words on him over at Piston Powered.

I hope he can sneak into the all star game

I really want to see that Gobert/Draymond/Kawhi anti-sowtime line-up

Where would rank a team with those 3 and average creator/average defender random guards something like fournier/jeff teague in the nba ? (maybe that's too strong, darren collison-g henderson would be more fair)

he might be a good fit w/ wolves and a championship timeline w towns.. maybe a trade involving wiggins could work, though its hard to say as they may throw in the towel on rubio at some point

Portland doesn't need to be in a hurry but is in the fairly tough spot of being stuck solidly in the mediocre tier despite having a top talent in dame
CJ already signed an extension.

As for the point about DAME, it's incredibly difficult to win an NBA title when your best plauer is a PG. Its the least important position in basketball
12-19-2016 , 02:58 PM
Add also the fact that PG is the 2nd position after C where being bad on D is really punishing, because they face the ball handler most of the game, and their size often makes it difficult to switch on D

Lilliard not a great asset if you want to win titles, but perfect player to secure a 1st round play-off exit every year

We basically have seen this with 2. Even at old age Timmy was elite rim protector with kawhi free to do whatever he wanted on the perimeter. It only resulted in a 206-54 regular season record in games that Kawhi started, back to back finals appearances, one ship (should have been ****ing two god damnit) in 5 seasons.

I disagree about Lillard and being wildly successful--He can be great if you have someone next to him that will defend 1s and 2's, and McCollum seems like the worst fit in that regard. Someone like a KCP would be very good, although the rest of their roster isn't constructed to be great on offense without CJ.

Dame's 1on1 skill and ability to pull-up off the dribble has tons of value in the playoffs, imo.

Are you still talking about Nerlens Noel?

Ya MJW is a great NBA'er. Especially enjoyed the info about % of oppoent's shots being long 2's and their efficiency on said shots. Well done.

PG defense doesn't seem that important. Look at recent championship teams. You got Steph, Kyrie and Parker who were hid a bunch. Even Lebron would take a lot of the important defense possessions for Rio vs good DRose and others. Russ is a poor defender and out of non championship teams his teams have had as much success as anyone. On the other side CP3 is almost as well known for his great defense as he is for never making the conference finals.

If you can't defend the 3 it's a much bigger detriment.
