He found Covington and McConnell and both are on ridiculously team favorable contracts. The Nets should be looking to do the same - Kilpatrick is a solid start but he's 27 and only signed for one more year.

They also don't have their own picks for a while (pick swap as well), so they can't go all out sacrifice winning for searching for talent. There needs to be a balance and they have plenty of incentive to winning now

Speaking of Covington, if Hinke were still there I bet he would look to move him right about now. Only have him for another year after this year and he is ridiculously cheap. But Philly likely isn't going to be good next year anyway so what good is it?

Would have more value to another team that is trying to contend than them.

This.

And it didnt even need to be Hinkie specials. They could have thrown 1+1 team option contracts at guys like Seth Curry, Tim Frazier and Terrence Jones. Unproven youngish guys with actual upside. All those guys signed for less money than Luis Scola and hes a decade older.

The lack of picks makes it even more important that they take advantage of UDFAs, waivers, D-League, etc.

They should have signed Christian Wood over the summer. They obviously should have kept Yogi. Keeping all of these unnecessary veterans limited them significantly - what value is there in veteran leadership if you barely have any young guys?

I think there's a very low chance Hinkie would move him (though it's pretty much impossible to speculate on what he'd do). He's one of the locker room leaders, fits really well with Embiid and Simmons, and appears locked in as our SF of the future. Good chance he's extended for like 4-64.

Philly is probably even money to be a playoff team next year. They're projected to win 31 games this year and their top 2 players have combined for 786 minutes.

If you plan on signing him long-term then you don't deal him, but I'd think that would take like 4/80 and not sure they wanna do that.
02-22-2017 , 08:13 PM
You're right i misremembered how they got him from Houston.

And yea they should totally trade him like right now.

Pretty sure they'll give him whatever it takes and I'll be happy with it.

4/80 for Covington would instantly be one of the worst contracts in the league.

EDIT: After a close look at the numbers I'm upgrading it to one of the worst contracts in league history.

The point is they have been. Stupid to nit about have a couple veterans on the bench with their situation. Agree on the case of Foye and dropping the ball with Yogi (although hes ran hot for a small sample so far)

They have less youth on their team than just about every other non-playoff team and their youth is worse than just about any other team. They've been doing a poor job with it.

I might be a little high on that but summer of 2018 you will still have a lot of contracts on the books from the pre-cap jump era so guys will be able to get a little more than they're worth.

2way swingmen are all the rage these days and can fit into any team, so the suitor list is a little longer than someone who is a strict C or PG.

Look at Covington's numbers, he's declined every season and this season he's been replacement level at best.
02-22-2017 , 08:27 PM
Yeah I'd hate to miss out on young studs like Christian Wood

Agree but that's not reflective of current management

Seadood getting 4/20 from the Nuggets with the sole purpose of licking the sweat off Jokic's balls during timeouts would be a better contract than 4/80 to Covington.
02-22-2017 , 08:30 PM
Covington's having a not so great year, but he's a good defender and isn't in an easy situation. He's definitely above replacement imo.

Could easily be a Trevor Ariza type on a good team. That said 4/80 might be kinda rough. His shooting is concerning.

Internet nets fans (all 8) turned on Kilpatrick like 6 weeks ago. They tell me he's super terrible and was just on a heater for like 3 weeks to start the season.

You're trolling. He's crushed RPM for 3 straight years and his defense has improved from mediocre when he came into the league to one of the better and more versatile wing defenders in the NBA.

I now hope the 6ers give Robert Covington 4/80 Million so their fans will be happy and also for the lols
