yeah although giannis didnt even play and nba season is increasingly more worthless year after year....it was always pretty worthless but obviously way more entertainment options now + load management and all that stuff

im sure the league will be fine overall but the exponential growth of revenue that made it so guys like Dame/Beal made 50M a year could be stagnating, seems like a good time to get out

also a huge part of the value of owning a team now is just as a toy/notoriety since you don't really get much fame from being mega wealthy.....MJ already has all that fame/acclaim/respect/clout without owning the hornets

there are so many more rich ****s out there now than there were just 10-12 years ago. You hear someone is a billionaire now and its like oh true....Wasn't that long ago that the avg person basically knew who all of the billionaires were.....Those 2 trust fund kids that bought the Suns just scooped them up for 4B and I had no idea who they were.

Does anyone here read Ethan Strauss? I don't subscribe to his substack but my friend showed me a little snippet that showed genZ just isn't watching sports nearly as much as previous generations and with my younger cousins I've noticed this as well (Tatum's buzzer beater on easter last year basically no one under 25 at my gathering was watching).....Not saying that spells doom for the leagues but the younger generations don't seem to be buying into laundry fanaticism as much as previous generations (this also is probably why leagues love sports betting now and lobbying state after state hard, to create a new kind of fan engagement to keep the gravy train going)

bit of a rant but thought it was an interesting tidbit
I've noticed this too but I live in LA area where nobody seems to care about sports. In my anecdotal evidence it seems most times I run into anyone under 30 and I mention sports (especially basketball) they look at me quizzically. I'm from the Midwest and am 37 where almost all of my friends knew something about sports or would at least watch and have some level of interest. It's actually frustrating to have few people to talk sports to.

Good post. I figured as those contracts were rising and rising and with inflation it'd just go higher but the market for NBA has to take a dice or hit a wall to a degree. Baseball has to make a bit of a comeback and the NFL train doesn't seem to be slowing down. Whoever mentioned pushing gambling is on the mark and its sick

Just a thought .
Maybe it comes to the fact that it’s getting harder for the newest generation to have any kind of connection with someone winning tens of million dollars per year while doing stupid things (ie: kyrie ) and u struggle just to pay for an education or a house or just a ticket to a game .
Unless they really love the game , the disinterest seem pretty normal to me ?

As someone who loves sports, I'm quite surprised there's as much money in them as there is. In this day of quick available entertainment, I expect most people to not have the time for following sports that they might have 20+ years ago.

Athletes/entertainers/1% always lived much better lives than the plebs, today is no different than that.

What I think may be different is the rise of social media/internet, where you can now see how the other half lives. Hard to care if some NBA player making 40M wins or not when you can clearly see through the internet that it makes minimal difference in the grand scheme of things either way, veil pulled back so to speak.

Yea, athletes were heroes to kids because they made so much money and dated models and mostly: the big ones were paid top dollar to do something they loved. You know, plus they ****in played. Now kids can focus so much on other rich people because they get just as much if not more attention due to social media. and Davis Bertons is getting paid 16 million a year.

Plus, they have entered the age of focusing on themselves via the same medium. But this is all an entire sociological/psychology topic.

The younger generation seems to be enamored with kids who make a fortune playing video games so I don't think so. I just think sports were the be all end all for us and shits moved on a bit.

I agree with the post saying I don't know who is filling up these arenas and giving the NBA so much money. I just don't see it

Russ was -15 for today's game.

LOL

and Knicks win a VERY NICE game vs the Nuggets. These Knicks can do anything imo. Why the **** can't they win it all!?!?

They’re the Knicks.

Other than that, they’re good enough to make some noise.

Kessler had 14 reb. Of which 8 were offensive rebounds.

With super Lauri + assets this team’s future is BRIGHT. NBA Season 22-23 Thread NBA Season 22-23 Thread

Celts/Sixers rd 1 looking very likely, probably close to a coin flip who gets HCA

Kings 3 straight road wins, should win the division, free money

GS/LAC probably don't want the 5 seed and to play Phx rd 1 but delicate balancing act, you don't really wanna fall to 7 and have to take your chances in the play-in either

LeBron has to be disgusted. If the Lakers beat Rockets and dont collapse vs Mavs they’d be 6th. Now they’re 11th.

I know Paolo is going to get it, but ROY is clearly Kessler imo.

Dude is a winning player and a top 7 center already.

I was thinking the SAME THING!

Kessler works on his free throws and 3 point shooting and he's a top 20 player in the Association!
