You have it backwards - the reason why superstars have this power is because teams have recognized that they are so valuable. So teams are going to do whatever it takes to hold onto them and get them to stay. But this increase in the perceived value of superstars makes it harder for them to move to a better situation - they almost have to cause some drama to force the issue and it could very easily lead to a worse situation. So they are pretty strongly incentivized not to request a trade unless they really really want out of the situation, as opposed to a FA situation where they would only stay if it was the best possible situation. I mean the last 3 superstars to request a trade are what, Kawhi, AD and Harden right? AD and Kawhi both had just a year left, AD managed to go where he wants to go, but mainly because the Lakers gave up every possible asset and he was a FA in a year anyway. Kawhi got traded to a random team he didn't care to move to, Harden's had to significantly expand his list of destinations and the Rockets are holding out.

I mean this isn't any different than how it used to be - Chris Paul (on the Hornets) and Dwight Howard (on the Magic) both had an easier time getting their teams to trade them to where they wanted to go.

Technically, Chris wanted to go to the Lakers. But lolstern.

Counterpoint about Wall--he plays in the West. Assuming Harden is traded:

Locks - Curry/Dame/Doncic
Likely - Mitchell
Better chance than Wall imo - Booker/CP3
Equal chance - Ja Morant/Murray

Since there is no ASG injuries don't matter, meaning it's likey the top 6 go. IMO he would have to leapfrog either Booker or CP3 whilst holding off Ja and Jamal Murray, not an easy task.

He has great equity to be better than Zion, imo.

I think Zion has a chance to be a great baller, but I don’t think he will be super elite. Ja has potential to be super elite.

Zion could also crumble at the knees tomorrow. Ja pretty much has zero downside.

Ja might already be my favorite player in The Association.

Ja variance is the type of player the Hornets need.

John Wall has always been explosive af, unless he has learned how to shoot off the dribble or developed a floater or attack the basket under control and not at 100% he's not going to be good.
Every superstar tends to drive to the basket at 90% speed so they can change direction more easily or even speed up if a defender is timing them while Wall seems to go full 100 toward the hoop and doesn't get calls as a result of being out of control
