I really don't want CP3.

Other Knicks possible news:

RJ Barrett may no longer be a lock 3rd pick. The Knicks are working out Darius Garland tomorrow. I don't see how RJ is going to contribute to winning actual NBA basketball games so I'd be okay it if they take Darius.

Spoiler:
Plus this way they can trot out a 4 point guard lineup.
It's starting to look more and more probably that Durant becomes a Knick. Focus on 2021 free agency and the 2021-2022 season.

Meanwhile

Garland
Smith
Ntilikina

I actually kinda agree with the take that Garland may be the right choice (assuming Morant goes #2 - and maybe even if not), but I suspect that they are doing due diligence, in case Barrett goes #2, between Morant and Garland.

However, last year Coach Flat was blown away by a workout and they drafted accordingly. So who knows. Exciting days ahead.

He's great but he's still going to command a lot of money in a market rich with centers.

Horford and Barnes opting out is an interesting sign for what people think the market will be, I would've guessed both would take their options.

Windhorst said he thought it was 50/50 that Love doesn't get traded this offseason, which before Horford opted out I thought was absolutely crazy talk, he's making 30 a year and just missed half the season. He'd be an interesting target for the Pelicans to play next to Zion if they want to try to contend right away.

The problem with the Big 3 model is that all 3 can't have max contracts. LeBron was making less than 20M per season in MIA. GSW got discounts from Steph and KD. I''m pretty sure PP, KG, and Ray weren't maxed in their Boston run. I think for the Big 3 to work requires an extremely unique and rare set of circumstances to all align. One of the players has to be on the 25% pay scale and another will have to take less than max. Owning the Bird Rights also gives a significant advantage. You also either need ring chasers or a very good rookie contract player.

Maximum Salary Based on Years of Service
(there are several qualifiers that can alter these tiers)

0-6 25%
7-9 30%
10+ 35%

I would like to see what the math guys have to say about what the theoretical optimal salary distribution is. Not hard to theorize that having two players account for 65% of the payroll may be a tipping point of being too top heavy.

That said, GM Magnum is taking lolakers current roster over all but a Toronto w/ Kawhi if my goal is to title next season.

the big 3 model is good. the problem is that lebron had to pillage a bunch of cheap assets to get AD, so the roster is going to be absurdly top heavy.

basically, adding a couple of bogdonovic's isn't going to be better than kemba walker. you get kemba walker, and take lots of small shots at finding the next bogdonovic (or FVV, buy out guy, whatever)

To acquire the Brow's mighty thunder
Now his team is half filled
And LFC is ready to set the bill
Laker fans everywhere pray for a Kemba

Umm, is it July 1st or something? News keeps coming and coming.

1. Don't mind Celts losing Horford. He obviously had a team tell him they're going to give him 4/110 or something absurd. I give Ainge credit for seeing that this team isn't as close as 2018 playoff run made it look like. Take a step back to take two forward. Think Celts should go after DAR as he fits timeline well and does have a lot of potential. I know they have to do a few more things to get the space for him but seems doable.

2. They need to put FA before the draft and move it up like a week. Get the order right like the NFL if NBA Offseason is going to be a sporting event in and of itself. The tampering is just probably out of control. Half these guys will probably have verbal agreements a few hours after 6pm on the 30th.

3. Lakers seem like they're gonna get to max space now. The saga continues. Giving away Bonga/Wagner/some other guy, buying 2nd rd picks and then AD will waive his kicker. All of that seems pretty doable. Lol Pelinka for having to give more assets.

If they sign Kemba/Butler into space, then do the trade as a capped out team...What options do they have to fill out the roster? All minimums and room exemption?

When the trade was completed 3 days ago, I said I'd rather get 2-4 roleplayers over Kemba because I don't like that fit. But now seeing how little 32m is going to buy you in roleplayers, I'd probably just take Kemba.

Celtics, Rockets discussing a Clint Capela trade?

Ian Begley: Something worth noting regarding the Celtics: Boston and Houston had checked in recently about a potential trade involving Clint Capela, per SNY sources. ESPN reported recently that the Rockets had made much of their roster available via trade. – via Twitter IanBegley

-----------------------

Edit:

Al Horford’s Celtic career has apparently come to an end after three years with the club. According to a source close to the All-Star center, his representation has ceased discussions with the Celts on a new contract. – via Boston Herald

Though no further information was given, other league sources from the West told the Herald it is expected that Horford will sign a four-year contract elsewhere. With free agents unable to sign until July 6, there remains a possibility that team changes – even with the Celtics – between now and then could impact this move, but it appears to be rather firmly set as of this point. – via Boston Herald

Pelinka really ****ed up not doing the cap space trades first, once he had an agreement with the Pelicans he shoulda make some real quick calls on giving away the rest of the roster. Now everyone has him over a barrel.

Rob Lowe would've handled it better.

Lebron must be irate.

Always liked him.

He's closer to Jeremy Lin than a difference maker tho. Just a guy.

So Horford will be going ring chasing i suppose & has no faith in Boston, that locker room must of been more cancerous than we all thought.
