"CP3 is not the GOAT PG!", thanks guys, someone really needed to bring some sense into this discussion, specially when no one even came close to talking about any of that.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2017

I'll take Westbrook,Curry, and Harden over Paul at pg. I know Harden is a combo guard but still hes like a pg in todays nba. I'd also take Nash,Kidd, and Magic. I'm sure im forgetting some guys to.

CP3 is a GOAT D by almost any metric except team success which I think is a poor metric for measuring GOAT PGs. I agree that CP3 should have run better, maybe he will now. Is he going to be magically that much better if they make the conference finals this year?

RWB's playoff stats, even on OKC's final runs aren't that impressive. It's amazing how team success ALA being drafted on the same team as Durant/Harden benefit RWB which you look at GOAT considerations. Although RWB who now has nothing surrounding him is running up his stats with a **** squad.

No not in my eyes. I got him top 7 or so. I just have seen quite a few better in my lifetime. If he was the greatest at his position he would of had more postseason success in his career. Its not like hes ran bad and just lost to the best team every year in the playoffs to not make the west conf finals hes never even lost to the eventual west conf champs.

yes, because he's in the conversation and people enjoy those conversations. But it has nothing to do with this trade, one guy basically came in and said something like "you all overrate CP3 and think he's the goat", it's just a derail on what was actually being argued.

Even if i took Westbrook out of the WCF and making the finals i still have him over CP3 . Hes a freak of nature. CP3 is still great im just saying hes not the the greatest even of this decade let alone all time.

Dont worry bro the thread can handle both topics. Most likely going to be until free agency opens until something big happens to discuss now.

sure, I'm fine with discussing it, just don't use it to shift goal posts
And RWB can't shoot, can't play defense, hasn't exactly been very good in the playoffs. He's not even close to CP3, career wise.

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2017

Westbrook is 5 years younger and still on his first nba team. Hes already had more success then Paul in his career. Paul is still hoping to one day lose to the eventual WCF winners in the 2nd round so he can say he was on the 3rd best team in the playoffs in his career

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2017

Russ is the same as Harden, a 2 playing 1. Admittedly Russ does guard other 1s though.

It's semantics but that's the nature of the conversation.

Steph is really a scoring guard also, he's just closer to a point guard build. Points are Nash, Stockton, Kidd, CP3, and Payton is a defensive point guard.

Really you should just rank guys by guards, forwards, and centers - and leave it at that. If you read Jordan Rules it mentioned how there was chatter of putting Jordan at the 1.

"more success", ok
edit: I'm not even that big of a CP3 fan, and he deserves his fair share of the blame for some specific series where his team under performed, but the arguments against him so far itt are terrible, specially when comparing him to other players

Chris Paul the only player to get considerations as the greatest at his position with never winning a mvp or making it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs(or losing to the WCF champ).

again, how's that a response to "he's better than RWB". It's just trying to use team success as a proxy for player value, it's lazy and doesn't add anything to the discussion.

You would think a board like this would intuitively understand variance better.

It's not like KG had playoff success pre-Boston (age 31) barring one year. He also missed the playoffs his last 3 years there before being moved.

I didnt say just Westbrook I said Westbrook/Harden/Curry/Nash/Magic. That theirs 3 guys you can even debate currently playing that are better at the same position alone shows hes not the greatest of all time at his position. On top of this you can look at his team success and other things to see hes clearly not the best ever at his position.

Dan Marino never won a Super Bowl and he's easily a top 5 QB ever

Gretzky never won again after leaving Montreal, how old was he when he was moved?

Meh, looks like he was pretty old. Just randomly came to mind. Always word associate Canadian posters.

27 is the answer, fittingly.

RWB, Harden, Nash, what a collection of playoff winners. Chris Paul is 31, that he's in the discussion with 3 great players for best pg in the league is a credit to him

Re: NBA Offseason Thread 2017

Interested to see how Houston fills out the roster.

Paul/Harden/Ariza/Anderson/Capela

Gordon only real bench piece.

They bought Ryan Kelly, I guess? who blows.

Tim Quarterman

And they have Underhand Onuaku as a bench big..

Maybe the German rookie comes over?

I wonder if Montreal is blacker and warmer than Edmonton.
