And Donovan Mitchell seems as good as the 7-12 picks, he's just 1 year older, but lots of upside on Offense and Defense
lol he better be good, they traded 3 years worth of picks for him and Rubio. Cool summer league debut though.

The trade was a net win with pick valuation my dude.

I mean sure this is a win for Boston but they still don't have one player as good as Kevin Love... They are going to have to consolidate sooner or later.

The Celtics don't have that problem at all & have lots of ways to supplement their stars... the problem is their stars aren't that good unless Tatum comes out way over expectations or they get something big out of 2018 draft.
Heat/Cavs definitely done a poor job developing end of the round 1st round talent. They haven't had many picks as well. It's also hard to get much better than top 2-3 team in the league. Most good/great teams have trouble adding other talent sans the Warriors because the only two ways to do that are FA and they're normally near the cap or above it or don't have high picks and the only way to get them is to trade one of your studs and sacrifice short term equity.

As you mentioned, Boston's stars aren't anywhere near as good as what the Cavs/Warriors have. Tatum is a long shot to be a top 5 player in the league and even if he is it'll likely be after the Cavs/Warriors are done with their run. I think the Sixers have more possible top end talent than the Celtics but the Celtics should have more talent/more assets long term. Milwaukee is also an interesting team in the East because of the Greek Freak but they don't have the assets or other stud potential beyond Giannis.

After the Celtics dealt Garnett and Pierce, the team shouldn't have been in the playoffs for years. Yet, they've been there for three of those four seasons and got better every year without sacrificing anything in the longterm rebuild.
The Sixers and Celtics starting points weren't comparable though even though they started roughly the same time. The Sixers owed multiple future 1st round picks and had very little in terms of assets on the roster. The Celtics had multiple future Hall of Famers to trade and Rondo coming off his fourth straight All Star appearance. It's really not difficult to understand why the Celtics were able to retool/rebuild so quickly while the Sixers are still more potential than results.

Ainge is obviously still a very good GM though.

Ainge is an elite GM bumhunter, but also a massive dork. Lucky he has charming and talented 1. BRAD to close the deal

not much of a close

"Hey Gordon, you wanna come play with me, (a coach whom you played for in college and love) and this team that was basically one 20 ppg scorer away from being elite (not to mention we were the 1 seed as a 'non-elite' team), a team which also has a boatload of draft picks in the next coming years in one of the most historic basketball cities? Or would you rather stay in Utah and play for a bunch of Mormons without George Hill?"

Rudy Gobert going into Gordo, fans burning jerseys... SALT Lake City is a great name.

They should be taking these complaints up to management.

Probably not.

Does the Celtics have one more move in them or do you just expect them to be content in being competitive but not good enough to win it all & continue to keep drafting young players & be competitive for the next 10-15 years & nothing more?

I want them to have 1 more big move in them, Hayward signing isn't that exciting to me without another move.
07-04-2017 , 10:05 PM
they have the assets to pull off multiple big moves. impossible to say what they will be. they're aiming to start peaking in 2-3 years. not next year
07-04-2017 , 10:07 PM
haywood def better than love. haywood is pretty elite player. lol at it tho.
07-04-2017 , 10:08 PM

Why? Aren't they the poster child team for "doing it the right way"?

Turns out doing it the right way only really amounts to a pat on the back after a year run for a 1st round exit.

Thunder top 4 in the west

I don't really care but it's pretty sad for Utah and the NBA, they did *almost* everything right and built a great up and coming team without tanking and now they are stuck in no mans land.

on the flip side it's great to see players exercise some freedom and not be stuck with the team that drafted them
07-04-2017 , 10:11 PM
I mean, every team is in no-mans land thanks to durant. its really terrible for the nba.
07-04-2017 , 10:12 PM
So glad we got Hayward. Now we can lose by 15 instead of 40. Zzzzzzzz
