who wants to guess the rockets price tag and who ends up paying?

i'll guess that they go for 1.6B to a chinese investment group with yao as a minority owner / face of franchise
07-17-2017 , 04:54 PM
way more
07-17-2017 , 04:56 PM
i think the clippers were an admitted overpay, you're not getting up to that price tag when the market says there's a motivated seller. you'd basically need another ballmer-style that-guy-came-out-of-nowhere-and-outbid-everyone-by-2x to reach those levels.
07-17-2017 , 04:58 PM
nba valuation has skyrocketed in the last 5 years clips sale is fine now
07-17-2017 , 05:00 PM
nba also would prefer to not have a group of 5+ buyers come together and form a team because the previous times that's happened have been a total mess (atlanta comes to mind).

so unless a super billionaire we aren't aware of decides to sweep the market, i think the largest bids are gonna come from china. NBA would love that anyhow, they will be super liquid to fund everything up front and you have a more established financial pipeline to broaden NBA is the giant china market.

hawks sold for 850, clippers overpay was for 2B, take the weighted average of the houston market against that then throw in a motivated seller and i think you land somewhere in the 1.5 range.

to see another 2B+ bid you more or less need someone like Michael Dell to be an avid basketball person.
07-17-2017 , 05:10 PM
it's going to be over 2B without a doubt
07-17-2017 , 05:18 PM
Clipps sale is obv fine, once they get out from that Staples lease there is going to be a lot more revenue available to them. Might move to Anaheim or inglewood, who knows. But there is a lot of upside there.

I think Rockets get over 2B. The UFC went for over 4B! Sports properties are everything nowadays.
07-17-2017 , 05:18 PM
You have to keep in mind that Ballmer is a clear idiot and MSFT is worth 3-4x as much today as it was when it was announced he'd be fired. Guy was clearly the biggest joke ever.
07-17-2017 , 06:10 PM
Swanigan's motor is crazy. he can bully a lot of smaller fours on team's second units
07-17-2017 , 06:32 PM
Rockets go less than 2B imo. NBA is a bubble.
07-17-2017 , 06:38 PM
Mother****er, why does Leslie gotta go. Horrible news for the Rockets.
07-17-2017 , 06:40 PM
2B+, zero doubt. That team runs that city, which is the 5th biggest metro area in the country and booming.
07-17-2017 , 06:40 PM
Can't wait for Nurk to start slow and get replaced by Caleb...
07-17-2017 , 06:40 PM
Maybe most importantly: demand is incredibly high and supply is nonexistent.
