Warriors are more scared of playing the suns as nobody in their roster except Wiggins has any chance of slowing down KD and Booker.

Crazy how much Wemby is getting consumed via TikTok 10-second clip. People are going to be shocked when he comes over to find out you can actually watch him play more than one possession in a row.

FYI his games are very accessible if you want to watch full games and I can assure you he's not dunking or blocking every possession. Upside is obvious but there are also obvious limitations at this stage. Shoots 31% from 3 (shorter line) on the season over high volume and AST/TOV ratio is below 1

I still feel like jokic needs to win by KO to win this and embiid team has floundered the last 2 weeks, also think with it close a lot of voters might default to the "safe" vote i.e the guy that is by far most likely to still be playing at the end of may/early june
Got Giannis at +650 just past midnight today and it seems the narrative is starting to shift towards him a bit after yesterday's game against Philly.

Saw Perk saying he was getting his vote on Max Kellerman's show (and he too has been promoting him as MVP lately).

they defended tatum/brown pretty well last year in the finals, is that so much different?

Phx would have to defend them as well, something celts do a lot better

I think GS probably goes to great lengths to avoid that in rd 1 tho (honestly mind not mind risking the 7-10 and getting OKC, it is that big of a difference)

it is going to be theater watching those 3 teams position themselves

I'm assuming Wggins is out for season which is a rumor but also heard he might be returning this week. Don't think those 2 are comparable to KD. KD is an all-time great and actually knows how to dribble unlike the Celtics in the finals last year

How do NBA teams strategically manage their wins in these scenarios? Your only tool is to not play guys, right? As players will always compete. Can’t see Steph and the players agreeing to play soft against the Thunder tonight, for example.

I don't think win management is a thing, unless you're the Thunder

Too tight to be playing around trying to get the 6th seed. Is Phx, who have played 5 minutes together, that much scarier than Sac?

I would say so

What do the tiebreakers look like for LAC, LAL and GS?

Clippers have the tiebreak on Lakers
Lakers have the tiebreak on Warriors
Clippers and Warriors are tied so goes to record / division record

Honestly think tonight’s LA showdown being a back to back for the Lakers settles it in terms of which team plays in. That will give the Clippers the Division tiebreaker over GS too, so should finish:

5th Clippers
6th Warriors
7th Lakers

Lol didn’t realize division still had an impact on anything. They really need to abolish that what a useless thing

Bolded is the key imo. Everyone is talking about Wembanyama as a taller version of Durant. But Durant has been a hyper elite mid-range shooter and a borderline elite 3 pt shooter ever since his second year in the league. Wemby may well become those things, but he isn't there yet. And there is definitely a universe in which he settles in as a Staps level shooter rather than a Durant level shooter.

Staps with better mobility, health, and shot blocking of course is a superstar and an easy No. 1 pick. But still a tick below Durant.

I'm not convinced. I honestly think that GS is indifferent between losing in the first round or getting to the NBA finals, and they probably expect that they will have to play the Suns at some point if they are going to come out of the West.

Also, no team has a player who is well suited to defend Durant.

Well, Phoenix is currently priced at 7 times more likely to win the West, so yeah.

And (seems like this might matter) a three way tiebreak goes Clippers Lakers Warriors (regardless of who wins LAC/LAL)

Minnesota has 40 wins, so has locked up 10th place at worst

Mavs have 37 with SAC, CHI, SA left

OKC has 8 with @UTA and MEM left

OKC has the tiebreak

So, I calc it at roughly 70/30 OKC/DAL for the last spot

Pels still have a huge range of outcomes. Last game vs Min will be huge

Rough playoff odds:

(4 spots)
Golden State 95%
Clippers 87%
Lakers 93%
Minnesota 60%
New Orleans 53%
OKC 5%
Dallas 5%

(2 spots)
Miami 87%
Atlanta 62%
Toronto 40%
Chicago 10%

Variance and injuries are a big deal.

If you get the 5, you have to play PHX immediately, when they are at full health (and you have Wiggins just barely back)

If you get the 6, then PHX has to get through one of the LA teams then the 1 seed Nuggets before facing you. They're roughly a flip to lose before they even play you.

i.e. last year, the Warriors didn't have to play PHX until the finals whereas the 4-5 seed plays them in the second round, and Dallas did them a favor and knocked off PHX for them

kind of funny that phx gets a large say in who they play, as they play both the clips and lakers in 2 of the 3 final games

This is all correct, but I think fans spend a lot more time dwelling on this sort of thing than players do.
