Danny Green tweet is amazing.

Sorry if the post wasn't clear. My racism line was a joke, his comments were only regarding him getting attacked on defense. He had to "clarify his comments," though, since I think a lot of people did understandably take "being attacked for being white" as something different.

No.

There was a stretch where he "struggled" because Michigan basically abandoned him as a creator but that was Beilein's doing, not a reflection on Stauskas. When he was actually asked to create, he was pretty ****ing elite at doing so.

He couldn't create for **** his freshman year but he became Michigan's best creator pretty quickly last year. He was basically unstoppable in the PnR, not just because of his shooting, but because he's a terrific, patient passer. Teams adjusted to him by putting smaller guys on him and he adjusted very well after a couple games. He's a lot quicker offensively than he'll ever get credit for.

Now, his defense.. is complete AIDS. That's where the issue is.

If someone uses the term "off the bounce" it's even worse than saying "score the basketball" imo. Usually means they can be disregarded.

Nik seems like he'll be elite offensively when he gets some experience, reminds me a lot of a better passing Steph in that he's going to command a whole lot of attention on the PnR--bigs will be forced to trap/blitz or risk him pulling up for a very high percentage 3.

Steph>>>Nik defensively though.

mjw what did you think of Gary Harris? I like what I've seen so far from him on both sides of the court, but his ceiling appears to be a lot lower than Nik's.

Steph isn't >>> anyone defensively. His biggest hurdle to being Stephlike is that it's impossible to replicate Steph's insane quick release to get good looks out of nothing, and to still be able to shoot that good off the dribble.

Nik's release is slower by a little, but he also gets it off much higher. I'm not sure if having a man somewhat in his face is going to affect his percentages, but in college he was pretty darn good at pulling up and shooting right in his defenders eye.

I think a lot of his success will hinge on how well his bigs are in the PnR.

I think Gary Harris has a really high floor. He's very good defensively and he was above average at pretty much everything offensively in college. I'd be surprised if he's not a productive player in the NBA.
10-09-2014 , 11:50 AM
Yeah that's pretty much what I see mjw. He'll never be an all-star, but I can see him succeeding as a 5th starter on a lot of teams, or a solid bench guy. His ideal role would probably be something like Bevs is for Houston or Chalmers was for Miami.
10-09-2014 , 12:13 PM
His floor is probably Ty Lawson, possibly better since that midget is vastly overrated.
10-09-2014 , 12:15 PM
The thing about Nik is that he is an insanely awesome shooter and pretty tall too. Also pretty great at basketball.

Chalmers role the last few years is a pretty good comparison. He's never going to be your primary ball handler, but he handles it well enough to get by.

Underestimating NBA level defenders. Even the best college defenders aren't necessarily + NBA defenders. LOLKANGS too

Bolded imo. Quick release>high release unless the player is >=6'10"

Stauskas is longer than Steph by a pretty wide margin, and his release is still plenty quick by my eye test. He's not on the Curry/Rauf level, but still pretty good.

Still lolkangs though

Stauskas Fredette

harpring was a bull, strong as an ox. Used to play bully ball and was a tough, physical defender with a mean streak

Totally different skill set

Oh I know, I was just playing along. By "really bad look" I meant that that quote shows an historic amount of defensive WIL, not that he's a racist.

SVG is messing around with lineups, sitting (not starting) Jennings and Drummond tonight. I'm pretty sure Monroe and Drummond didn't play a single minute together against the Bulls. As bad as the wing contracts were in the offseason, I'm still super excited to see what SVG can do with this roster.
